Hi everyone in this forum , I've been member of this forum since I started this long and difficulty trip with the steps.. now God thanks! I' m in MATCH process , but unfortunately I didn't match this year, I'm IMG, with steps passed with >80,all on first attempt ,ecfmg certified on january 2008, GC holder, some research experience in my country , observership 1 month, worked in private clinic , 3 LOR of USA MD, I applied to IM and FM . I went to 5 interviews everyone were OK , I think.....now I 'm trying to identify what were my weakness or deficiencies in this match , first I think I applied late ( I applied on November 20, waiting x my CS results), I think the worst is the fact that don't have enough clinical experience in USA NEITHER STRONG RELATIONS INSIDE THIS WORLD... so now I' m desperately looking for USCE , I went to Cleveland Clinic in FL 2 weeks ago to apply for an observership ,I left my documents and I'm still waiting to be called to confirm my position (I called every day to her answer machine ) despite that there no positions available until september- October, the same with mount sinai mini residency program there is not available positions until late October-January 2009, any way I get a place at Mount Sinai for Cardiology but it will start on October , At JMH is very difficult to enter if you don't have anyone inside ... so I 'm thinking about research assistant at University of miami ,but I think if wont work if you not publish .... I also think about House Physician ...... but I don't know if this count as USCE... PLZZ any other idea to USCE ... anything else ........ PLZZZ HELP!!! pd I started to study x step 3 but I think is better to prioritize the USCE.

Hi Naygian, I think you should personally visit every hospital in your area not once but as many times as it takes for you to finally meet someone who says yes to you. My advise might appear kind of weird to you but what ever I am writing is from personal experience. As far as strong relations or contact go, they do not just happen you have to work hard to make them, or you are born/get married to them I went to 3 different hospitals asking for USCE, the first program flatly denied that they offer anything. The second asked if I knew any of the MD`s , the third said they have a waiting list for about an year. I went again to all three, the first denied flatly again, the second I knocked at different doors with MD sings on them, and you know what one kind soul helped me and agreed to be my sponser. But if I would have stopped right there I could not have matched today. I went to the third hospital and told them its O.K if there is a waiting list in cardiology, general IM, GI, etc I will take what ever you have, and lo and behold I received an e-mail in couple of days about availability. Thats the hospital I matched in, they wrote me awesome LORs, those LORs were considered by there program director in high regard. On the other hand this other hospital I have observeship experience in did not even invite me for an interview. So boss you have time, get on it. Get all the experience you can get, and at multiple places. God Bless.

In the past, we had an aspiring resident who visited me weekly. By the 4th or 5th time I saw him, I just wanted to know what part of "I am sorry, but we do not have an observership program" confused him. I started out very nicely, but the day that he lurked around and tried to speak with some of my physicians was the end. I asked him nicely, but firmly if he was seen in the area again, he would be removed by security. Be very careful.

Places which claim to have observerships but no current availability / or places with no set rules to let someone observe have told me, things can be different if I knew someone or if I talk to someone (MD) directly who would be willing to sponser me. This is something I have personally encountered at multiple places.
