I have read how the MATCH algorithm works 9 http://www.nrmp.org/res_match/about_res/algorithm...) , and what I understood is the MATCHING will be acoording to the rank order list of the applicant not the program ; however, the applicant can be removed from the position if there was a more attractive applicant for the pogram later during the process. I have also read here and there in this forum that tha MATCHING chances increase when you rank smartly the programs that are more likely to take you first , and that many applicants did not match simply because they had hope of matching to program that would not rank them high! Now I have lot of queries about how to use the system smartly in a way that I not only match but to a good program of my choice. Please MATCHED people, since you have been through this, help me and lot of others who have the same question with your good advice

lots of differing opinions here...but what most PDs said (and we asked them cause their was so much controversy) is that u get matched in the order u rank ur programs with the program that has u highest on their list...meaning if ur number 1 program does not rank u among their top seats, but ur second number does u get second...if ur third program also ranks u highly u still dont get it coz u asked for second before third...so that way both the applicant and the program has a say...i dont know what ranking smartly means, in the sense that according to what i know, even u rank 10 programs that didnt rank u and the 11th was one that did, u would still get it....did i just confuse u again!!

No you did not confuse me ! thanks for ur input so does that mean if you rank a program lets say that rank you higher that another applicant- assuming the difference in oder ofthe two of you is small - as no 5 but the other applicant had it a his/her top chioce. if you did not match in your first 4 choices , who will get the position. The other applicant isn't it ? so if you ROL is made up of 5 positions you may end up not matching !so what i mean by ranking smartly is it's better to rank a program that you know that they will rank you high over programs you may like more but are less likely to rank you high. correct me if I am wrong

no if u are higher on the programs list than the other applicant, then even if the applicant ranked that program higher u will get in first ...thats where the programs choice comes in...coz they wanted u more...also of course the programs u ranked above this program shouldnt have ranked u....so again the reason behind ranking prog u are sure of rather than those that u like isnt correct i think...chek out some other threads on this forum that have talked of this issue too....usually concludes that u rank the programs according to where u want to go not how u feel they will rank u...
