you need 4 LORS...so one of both would be great! but if you have to choose I'd like to know the answer too...I'm clueless about that but I think most ppl would say LOR from a US physician..

i was told by a friend that you better make sure that the Dr. who wrote your LOR knows you very well because some program directors will check the veracity of your LOR (if indeed the Dr. knows you well). If they would find out that you somehow misled them then there is a chance that they would put a DNR/DNI "do not rank " or "do not interview" on your application file.

dr shvetasm is right, u should have both as each addresses a different issue...lor from india is someone who knows u as a student/doctor...lor from US depicts what a medical person here feels about ur ability to fit in and to creat an impression in a short time some instis ask for US LORS from IMGs, numbers vary...but most expect at least one from ur actual place of training too...

if i had to choose between the 2 i would go for the US one. I saw the evaluation forms used at one of the programs that interviewed me. They scored every LOR (out of 100) based on the content and then gave +25 if it was from a US doc and -25 if from another country !!!

Now, thats something new motorola.. I wonder if thats how most programs look at LORs Since one can put in only 4 LORs for each program ( correct me if i am wrong), I will have to chose betwen the two for most programs. (ofc i will submit all to ecfmg) But is it really necessary to have atleast one from my own med school, even if I might have enough US lors?

i have seen a few (very few in fact) programs asking for LOR from the departmental chair. but other wise most people wouldnt care. However people might get suspicious if u dont have any LOR from your home country. (as in they might think ur department had something bad to say about u etc) so try to keep it 1+3 or 2+2. this is my personal opinion so talk to many people before u decide. P.S. that format for evaluating a LOR was what i saw in one big peds program in NY. but i dont think many would have similar thing against foreign LORs. bbb's how does your program evaluate LORs ? any tips on this issue ?
