hi.
i wanted to know that is DM retinopathy due to osmotic damage or non enzymatic glycosylation (NEG) because first aid says (NEG )while goljan say it is due to osmotic damage? which one is right.

The cause and pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy are not clear at nowdays.
You can probably add more etiologic factors to these two.

excessive glucose is converted into sorbitol which causes the damage....
