Hi. I was not sure where to start this thread, and decided this might be the best place, since many who have matched will probably know more.
I know that it stands for: Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
But, what do programs mean when they say you need it before entering their hospital, say for USCE? Is it something you sign? Is it a course you take? Is it something to pay for? Is it hard and complicated to get?
As you can see, I have a lot of questions regarding this, and not much that I know. I hope someone can help me with the answers.

Hi,
HIPAA trains you for maintaining patient confidentiality, in relation to physician, offices, staff, third party vendors associated with medical data handling.
I was required get HIPAA certified before I joined observership at a hospital. That time they gave me the name of a website, paid around $25 or $30 and told me to get a certification from that website. 3 hr course.
At that time I was told, that when you join residency hospitals train their residents and certify before residency starts. I am pretty sure programs will let us know how to go about it.

Thanks, arizona_wave. Do you remember the website you took the course at? And, will you be getting HIPAA certified a second time before your intern year?
