here the Q it is about defense mechanisms.................

---When asked about his impending heart operation, the patient recounts the procedures in detail. He seems remarkably well versed and, upon questioning, admits that he has been "reading everything I can get my hands on" about it. He discusses the details for hours, yet shows no emotional reaction to the impending events. The defense mechanism that most likely accounts for this scenario is....

(A) rationalization

(B)suppression

(C)regression

(D)isolation

(E)intellectualization.

  #2

I think D- isolation... It is when one has no emotions to some important/scary event oncoming...

  #3

E.

E- can not be correct. First, if it is correct the question is very easy. Second, I have no idea about this defence mechanism. Intellectualization is feature of group therapy... when people learn to examine symptoms in themselves.

Is E
Intelectualization the patient goes into the technical part of it, and gets their emotion out aside.
For example a lady that was Dx with breast cancer and now start looking for information about it, she is doing intelectualization.

Gogeta thanks... I did not know that intellectualization is defence mechanism also.
Thanks a lot

E.... because as gogetta said..intellectualizationmeans whne a person goes into lot of details on anything (prolonging the conversation) and the dr is most of the times surprised by the vast knowledge of the disease/prcedure/therapy etc etc.it is a mature form of defense(not sure but i think).
it is not isolation as people in isolation do not interact so much like this guy who is explaining or telling the dr so much about his illness.
correct me guys if anyone has diff opinion on this.
