usmleusmle wrote:Dear all, the residency program i matched to just sent me an email saying the dean's letter was a must for its GME office to proceed with my criminal background check. Is dean's letter from my medical school required to start residency? I thought the ECFMG provided a substition if i did not have a dean's letter from my medical school. thank you so much. How could you participate in match without MSPE/dean's letter?

related info about the Dean's letter from ECFMG http://www.ecfmg.org/eras/documents.html#deanslet ERAS Support Services at ECFMG requires that all international medical students/graduates submit an original MSPE. If you cannot supply an original MSPE, ERAS Support Services at ECFMG will not delay the processing of your ERAS application. However, the document will be annotated, as described below. ..... If you are unable to secure the MSPE from your medical school, you must indicate this on Page 12 of your Common Application Form (CAF) - MyERAS Application. A neutral placeholder letter will be provided in place of a MSPE. The placeholder letter will be provided to all of the programs to which you apply, and will state, "This is in lieu of a MSPE." This will ensure that your application will appear as complete for those programs that require a MSPE before considering your application.

What did you use in ERAS? Provide them with that.

There are tons all over the internet, just google MSPE and you'll see them, plus the AAMC.org has a guideline also... my school used that one for my MSPE. I would recommend to ask your school to do one for you pronto!! maybe they could have done it in the first place but you didn't try it... ask kindly and if they refuse tell them that they have to otherwise the boogieman will come and visit them one of these days hahahaha ... well you get my point!! they have to do it!!

Hi usmle, I had the same problem. When I talked to the GME office, they suggested I submit any document from my medical school stating the starting and finishing date and the rotations. I had an internship and degree completion document from my school that stated those, so I faxed it to them and they said it will work. Have't heard back yet.......hopefully it is done. Try talking to the GME office of your program.
