Hello BBB,
I know you have been an immense help to this forum. I shall really appreciate your suggestion on my confusion.
I am currently on a F1 visa. The program I got in is going to sponsor a J1. Now I don't get done with my current program till May 24th, and the orientation at my residency program is on June 9th, which is mandatory. And its on the East Coast, and I am currently pursuing my Masters on the West coast. This dos not leave me with a lot of time to go back to my home country and get the J1 stamping. My F1 is valid till May 2009.

My question is, whether the program shall let me begin the residency if i apply for a change of status from F1 to J1 within the United States. The status change might take any where between 6weeks to 6 months. So, from your experience or knowledge, do you think I need to get the J1 visa stamped before I can begin the Residency or is it possible to start the Residency if the application for Status change is in process.

I look forward to your opinion on this.

Thanks!!!

This is not a question for me - it's a question for an immigration attorney. All I can tell you is that you cannot begin working for a residency while on a F1 visa. That is not a work visa.
