Is it mandatory for the stethescope we use in the exam to have a Diaphragm and bell (the traditional style...with a separate diaphragm and bell on either end) My steth is a littman with only one side .......I'm wondering because the sp may not know about it and may give a lower mark for not using the bell while checking for bruits,.etc... If thats the case I'll buy another steth for the exam. Thanks

Use the stethoscope you have. Using the diaphragm or the bell to listen to carotid bruits is highly discussed even by doctors, so there's no consense at all. Just research the Internet and you'll see. The SPs won't be concerned about it. They'll be checking other less technical skils.

Hey Arlete! thank you for all your help. It seems as though you are the only one out there reading these posts. Anyhow, i was under the impression that we cannot take our steths into the CS exam? is that fact or fiction? I thought we were to use the steths provided in the rooms?! i may be mistaken. thanks in advance.
