Hey everyone, I'm planning to apply for the match next yr and like everyone else I am looking for observerships/research experience. But when i get someone to agree for research experience, they ask me if i can arrange for a work permit. Does anyone have any idea bout a work permit (temporary or otherwise) other than H1b...coz probably H1 doesnt make sense for a 2 month research project...Please respond as soon as u can as I have to respond to them with an answer. Thanks a lot

what kind of visa are you holding? I would think they are talking about the work permit for a green-card pending person. If you are having B2, as far as I know, you are not eligible for a working permit. GL.

If you work as a volunteer, you can work as a B2 visa holder. I used to have a B2 IMG worked as a volunteer in our lab.

That is the situation I don't know. The person I knew came to the states first as a B2 via his relatives. And then he came through a person who knew my boss, and my boss said yes. And that person went through the documentation process and worked very briefly in our lab, got a very nice recommendation and left. I guess if you ask the university to invite you as a B2 would be too troublesome. Try get one by yourself. And when you are here, it will be much easier to work things out. Best of luck.

It would be much easier and convenient. If you know someone in person, there may not be too much documentation work. GL.
