Hey everyone, I'm planning to apply for the match next yr and like everyone else I am looking for observerships/research experience. But when i get someone to agree for research experience, they ask me if i can arrange for a work permit. Does anyone have any idea bout a work permit (temporary or otherwise) other than H1b...coz probably H1 doesnt make sense for a 2 month research project...Please respond as soon as u can as I have to respond to them with an answer.

Thanks a lot

what kind of visa are you holding? I would think they are talking about the work permit for a green-card pending person. If you are having B2, as far as I know, you are not eligible for a working permit. GL.

If you work as a volunteer, you can work as a B2 visa holder. I used to have a B2 IMG worked as a volunteer in our lab.

yeah thats exactly what i've been trying to work out...but most university policies are against it..

That is the situation I don't know. The person I knew came to the states first as a B2 via his relatives. And then he came through a person who knew my boss, and my boss said yes. And that person went through the documentation process and worked very briefly in our lab, got a very nice recommendation and left.

I guess if you ask the university to invite you as a B2 would be too troublesome. Try get one by yourself. And when you are here, it will be much easier to work things out. Best of luck.

i already have a B2 which i used for cs....and will use for an observership soon....i guess they allow research on B2 only in case u know ppl around???

It would be much easier and convenient. If you know someone in person, there may not be too much documentation work. GL.
