In the peds kaplan lecture notes, they have some problems mentioned in the fluids and electrolytes chapter. My doubt is how they calculated the pre-illness weight. They came up with a formula, eg: 0.9x=5.3 and in another problem, 0.85x =7.7. Where did they get the numbers 0.9 and 0.85 from? I was taught a very different method of calculating maintenance and deficit fluid. So, I appreciate any help in trying to explain my doubt.

they got it from that 10% of the fluids are lost in mild dehydration and 15% in severe dehydration. if you minus this amount from 1 then you will get 0.9 and 0.85 which are the multiples
