from another forum How old IMGs can increase matching chances---- 1. Spend time & effort on resume and PS (make multiple custom PS) 2. Brush up your communication skills and english accent. 3. Apply to IM/FM/Paeds/Psy 4. Research programs well before applying or use IMG-interactive web site. Dont waste money on programs that have a cut off grad date (very imp.) They will just filter your application and will not even reveiw it. 5. Focus and keep in touch with programs around your area. Call them. Visit them. Show interest. Send cards, flowers etc 6. Find good friends and contacts in a program that serves as a postive refferal. 7. Avoid an attempt on CS its the worst thing, other steps doesnt matter. 8. Pass step 3 before applying. 9. Apply Sep 1st with all docs loaded and scanned. 10. EAD/GC helps a lot. 11. Be optimistic, have faith and dont listen to people who say its hard for old grads. Keep away from their company.

I would completely agree especially with point No. 5, very good advice, these are the things which helped me a lot.

The G/C status is generally a necessity - basically programs can't be bothered when they have other people lining up with equal/superior qualifications. Board scores have to meet minimum cut offs. Bottom line: don't give them any reason to discard your application - make it as easy as possible. I cannot emphasize the importance of staying in touch with the people that matter and showing that you will be a great candidate. Good luck to everyone BD

Mark my words drnadeemusmani, If you apply to more than 80 programs in any ONE specialty among IM, FM, Psych, Peads you will get >10 interviews and probably a prematch. Your biggest strength will be your Green card and UK experience. Just apply wisely i.e apply where you meet the criteria, apply to mix community plus uni affiliated community programs. If you can, get some USCE too. But you should be pretty fine in 2009. Goodluck.

Good Luck my friend, WR

Come on guys... Nobody "fails in everything"... For starters, we were the best spermatozoons! We already started as winners!
