I am not working either. I too just graduated from med school. Basically, I sleep , eat and drink USMLE! I wake up at 7 am and sit down to study at around 7:30 am. Then I take a lunch break with the family and then back to studying till i get drained at night! Basically, this is the way I look at it......If you get great USMLE scores and have this unemployment thing on your CV....you can still improve your CV by doing research and other extracurriculars after the steps BUT if your USMLE scores aren't good you won't even get an interview!!!!! So, the priority is to worry about scoring high first. these tiny things such as unemployment etc CAN be improved/overlooked. One of my family relatives is Program Director and he simply pulls out the applications with 85 percentile and above first and then he starts reading the application!! So SCORES FIRST! If you want to work a job then go ahead but if its compromising your scores then just focus on the USMLE. Also, its better to just devote yourself 100% for a few months to get through these steps than to go join a job and drag taking the USMLEs for years becoz you didn't get enough time to study ! Just my two cents.....
