I am really inspired by reading so many journals, and finally decided to start wriing for my own. I hope this will help me to keep motivated and focussed.
As I am a working full time and also a busy mom of a 2 yrs old toddler it's really a big issue for me to have enough time for my preparatation. But I know may be it will be late for me, but I can surely make it. As I have seen here in this forum many a mom have done it. I hope I will get support from friends in my way of tough battle.
I am now in my first reading of IM, from Kaplan books.
So far done with Hem, RES, Card, ER, INF DS, RenalToday I need to finish Endo.
I should not get distracted, I know only I have few hours to read 9 Pm to 11 PM and Morn 4 am to 6.30 am on daily basis.
Only I can sit and read in my week ends.
I understand people will laugh at me. is not it. But this is my harsh reality, I donot have any other choice.

no one will laugh at you dear  ....., and as you said many moms present here [ where are you dear Feyza  ]...., and visit the match forum too to see moms made it into residency ...., so surely you can do it,just believe in yourself, work hard, and every thing will be as you wish Inshaallah

Hello Prachestha!! I wish you the very best in your preparation..I sure you can do it, you have accomplished a lot just by starting studying with a job and a child and that's admirable..nothing to laugh but outstanding!

After log try I could finish endo and all ques from UW. What a slow progress. I know, but need to come for work and at home to take care of child nad hubby.
Doinfg neuro, must finish all ques from UW by today.

Thanks Feyza for your inspiration. I get only 3 hrs at night. I want to know how to save and squeeze some more time.
I used to get up by 3.30 am and read till 6.30 am earlier for 2 months. but could not really continue to do that for lng time as I am a study clinical coordiantor, i am too busy for the whole day, running behind the pateints and got to do lot of regulatory paper workks as well. So whne I leave my work i cannot really remain too energetic. I am amom of 2 yrs and 7 mon old, so I need to take care of him, and cook food. After having dinner I sit to read from 8.30 to 12 Am. Thats all daily.
And I get up at 6 am and get busy with house hold work and to make my child ready for his day care and leave for work at 7.45 am.
Only I can study on my week end for loger duration, Can any mom give you a better suggestion how should I organize my schedule and study more and make use of my time the best for the preparation. I will appreciate your kind suggestion. Sorry to say pl donot ask me to quite the job. As this job only has helped me to find my way to fight for usmle.

I am not someone to give you advice how to manage time with a child.......but after going thru ur daily schedules....i must say........u are a real hard worker.........i admire you all dear moms....

I have finished neurology, doing UW. I could finish only 20 MCQs. Hey god give me strength. Now it is 11.40 am. so much is left, I need to finish the neuro mcqs tomorrow.
I will do on my way to work, if baby doesnot disturb me.
Lets see how much I can complete.

I am a mom of 2 and half years old. And also work full time. I can only get to touch my books after 8.30 PM on week days. And I read till 12 am.
When I see others reading for nearly 10 or 14 hrs, I feel kind of depressed and feel as if no matter I try, I can never pass or get a good score.
I used to keep my 2 yrs and 7 months old with a baby sitter so that I could study for long hours say about 8 hrs only on Sat and Sunday. Lately I could observe that my kid is not listening to me, and often started biting, bite-ing, scratching me whenever I try to stop throwing tantrum. I have discussed this with my parents and some well wisher they told us that as me and my husband both are preparing for our exams, hence we hardly pay enough time to our kid, hence my child is expressing all his anger by doing those. I am so confused. He is not even potty trained, I am struggling, to train him.
Hence I stopped sending him out to baby sitter on the week ends, but this has put me in lot of trouble. I am spending more time in taking care of a naughty kid to keep him safe.
I always make a plan to study and complete some items, but at the end I cannot finish as I get busy in controlling a hyperactive kid.
I have read all experienced moms biography. I often wonder how could they manage to take care of their 2 or 3 kids, while preparing for steps.
Can any mom advice me how to make my child busy with some activity so that I can study being not distracted when he is around?
I will really appreciate.

dont say that  maybe it will take a bit longer but when you are done , you will have a great kid in your pocket and the friends that can study 10 hrs now will have to diaper babies then its in turn
if you really really want this , you can do it ! Its no easy , but to want it by heart and determination is the key !
about the relationship with the kids ... how you build it up these days is really important and it will go on exactly like that after this ! so plzzzz do your best to be patient ...2 yr 7 mo is some difficult age ... child psychs call 3 y olds : young puberty ... same mood same stubborn attitude , tatrum peaks ... just be patient , never yell back , the key is TO MAKE HIM FEEL MUM AND DAD LOOOOVE ME ...let the little puppy feel good and confident in mummys caring lap , just make him feel hes your number 1 and just explain why you have to be with your books ! dont think hes sooo young to understand ... if he feels you really do love him , he will cooporate , trust me ... I know its very difficult but plz dont give up ! EVEN 1-2 VERY NICE HOURS TOGETHER IS MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR HIS EMOTIONAL FEEDING IF ITS WELL QUALIFIED ...
read him , play with him , try to discover how he can play himself best ... maybe 1 day you can read and dad can play and next day the other way ... plz never put him in front of TV for the sake of exam ... hes #1 , exam is #2 ... if you accept this in your brain , time he steals away from your study time wont irritate you that much ! and you will feel more peaceful than before at 8:30 ... no playgroups around ? or a kindergarden ? he wwill learn to play himself soon dont worry .. color pens , play doughs , favourite toys , sometimes ordinary house stuff , water in summer ... anything your imaginary world bring up
take it easy hun , and God help us all ... being ECFMG certified late with a peaceful kid is far more better then the opposite

Many many heartiest thanks to you. I could understand how much important time you have spent to advice me all these good things. I really appreciate.
I used to think like that but as the days are passing and I am getting late in taking the exams, I feel upset and get easily disturbed when my child needs attention.
I will try to think and act as you said.

I have completed cardiology, hematology and Gi in last week. Still slow in progress. Today I will start Inf Ds, may be 3 days it will take. I will try to complete in 2 days. only 6 hrs in my hand to do this. Is it possible. I hope I can as this is my 2 nd reading.
God give me strength.

From today I will start Pediatrics. Kept only 15 days for my first reading. I must finish by May 15, 2008. I really need to work hard.
Can anyone please advice me which are the chapters and systems important for the exam purpose. So that I can go over those in the first few days. Please kindly advice me. I will be reading only Kaplan books. Do you think I should have any other resource to study for pediatrics. Kindly advice.

On May 3rd learnt P.M cardiology, did UW. But still very slow. Today I will start hematology and onco. Let me see how far I can do. Sent baby to babysitter, let me concentrate and study hard.
