A little song for us unmatched people:

When you try your best, but you don't succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse
When the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone, but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

----Fix You by Coldplay

My favorite song these days......sad

i'm having a difficult time picking up the pieces, not because i'm too depressed, but more because i feel like i have lost steam (you know, to keep the engine running). i just feel really tired and don't even know where to start. i am planning to study for step 3 again and have emailed about observerships and research again. hopefully, i could recover my motivation and high spirits back even in the face of all this disappointment.

Whiterabbit, i have read about your difficulties and i am amazed at your resilience and determination. you are a very strong person.

Goodluck to you and to everyone on this thread. it's funny how i have derived strength and comfort at this most difficult time in my life from people i have never even seen. thanks guys! you're all in my prayers......

Count me in for 2009 match. I was dissappointed going through application, rejections, more rejections, 4 IVs, "we are sorry, you did not match to any position", scramble (worst of all) and finally I am back.smiling face There is more to life than matching and I am handful again running around kids, volunteering and planning for next match.
Will keep in touch!

Find a redient is AAMC associated site where programs with unfilled or unexpected positions post their ads and requirements. It is generally more helpful for PGY-2s and 3s who want to switch.. but certainly PGy1 positions are also advertised occassionally.

Generally if the program has unexpected vacancy at this time until june, which is very possible because sometimes people do not reach in time for visa or are refused visa, sometimes local grads decide to take a break or just dont like their matched place or some people have personal emergencies that hinder their way..

In such cases, PD's look into the pool of people who they interviewed and who did not match and will start contacting them.. Also sometimes a person who is done with exams and is doing an externship in program comes into the spotlight.. spouses of current residents sometimes get into such spots too.. Also, contacts work at such a crucial time as the program is also desperate to fill up their position.. if you know a senior resident or chief resident.. they can speak for you.. that will be the time.

I am not raising any hopes.. i am just mentioning a few possibilities and asking to keep eyes and ears open.. while you prepare for the coming september.

Good Luck.
