It is particularly virulent, and causes a rapidly progressive celulitis (which is actually a pretty mild description for what it does). It digests all the tissue below the surface of the skin. The Rx is rapid debridement and possible surgical amputation. Usually the subq fascia and fat and muscles have to be completely stripped away, and there is really no practical systemic antibiotic application that is effective here.

This is one reason why any Px with a cellulitis should track the progress of the infection by drawing a line at the margin. If the redness grows a certain rate, it may be necessary to biopsy the tissue, and a pathologist can pick this up.

Remember, Staph causes abscesses, Strep causes cellulitis.

I know its dramatic. He basically already explained it with the words
Necrotizing Fascitis/cellulitis/lymphangitis (necrosis think cell death) Ill add a little with more virulence factors

Streptolysin S-hemolysin/cytolysin
Steptokinase-breaks fibrin clot
Streptococcal DNase-liqufies pus, extends the lesion
Erythrogenic toxin- inhibits liver clearnce of the endotoxin endo toxin is
unique for this gram+ cocci

Idiopathic worded it best "rapidly progressive cellulitis" mildly stated or understated
with progression to

2)Sx inciision and debridement
3)amputaion - antibiotics are of little value
4)keep track of progressive cellulitis
