After my CS test, I have been busy searching for any possible opportunites to gain USCE. I asked almost every single one of my friends who may have contacts in hospitals, or private clinic. I got many kind responses, but until now, no realistic progress so far. I guess I could not spend all day checking my emails. So here I come, for step 3 preparation. Materials I am going to use: FA for step 3, Swanson's family practice review, 2008 current medical diagnosis and treatment(CMDT), UW Qbank including CCS and MCQ, USMLE CD questions, step123CCS. However, based on my preparation on step 1 and step 2, I may end up just using FA, UW Qbank, CD questions, Step123 CCS. And using the other reference books for a quick check-up for any confusing areas. I am going to take it either at the end of June or July after my CS result comes out(praying that I could pass). First month will mainly read FA and Swanson.

I changed my title to score over 95. I know for step 3, passing is sufficient. But having a good score will surely boost the chance for match, I believe. Today's goal: Read FA ambulatory medicine, cardiovascular, and emergency medicine. Thanks, Ivonne for visiting. Today is your CK day. Best of luck!

Hi njcjzy, I posted for the first time on your CK journal well after you were through with it. So, let me beat time this time around, and post here early. Wishing you loads of energy for Step 3 prep, and luck for USCE!

Feyza, docfor99, paheli, thanks for dropping by. I didn't really study step 3 yet, indeed, I am still busy doing observership and arranging more opportunities for USCE. Today I shadowed a derm physician. Tomorrow, I am going to meet an endocrinology doc for shadowing. possibilities. There are some others coming along. I don't think I can handle USCE and step 3 at the same time. So I will concentrate on USCE and prepare step 3 afterwards. I will be back. Thanks again, friends, for your caring and support. Good luck with your preparations.

Hi Ivonne, and beiwen, nice to see old friends here. We met at CK and now we are at step 3. Honestly, I didn't touch too much of step 3 materials. USCE troubles me. I go to the derm clinic two days a week. And the other days surfing the web for longer time or being together with my two kids for their homeworks or games. And there is a old paper I have to revise and resubmit. And other potential but not realistic opportunities bother me so much. Let's see how God guides me through. Hi friends, which is more important, step 3 or USCE? I am still weighing between these two.

njcjzy, i too had the same confusion until a couple of weeks ago, then i made up my mind to finish step 3 by mid july and then do my USCE. when u apply u can show it as current in the resume...n u'll have ur step 3 score...I think this will make ur resume really good.

docfor99, but July would be the hardest month to go into an observership because new residents are joining the programs. I agree with you that step 3 score will make our resume more attractive.

Good point njcjzy. I am trying to get some observership ASAP but we all know that the paperwork to get one takes time. In the other hand I have to work to pay bills so I don't know how difficult it is going to be to get a medical assistant job afterwards because the residency application is quite expensive... Good luck dear friend!

Hi Ivonne, if you live in Atlanta or other areas where Spanish speaking population is huge, you will have good chance to be a paid medical assistant. Many of the private clinic here ask for medical assistant who can speak both Spanish and English. If you don't mind moving to other areas, maybe you can try that direction for USCE.

Hi Ivonne, how is your USCE going? How is your step 3 studying? I will stop thinking of step 3 until I send out all my applications. I won't take step 3 before September 1. As I told you, I heard from an insider physician that it is not going to add any weight to my application package based on my current step 1 and 2 scores. So I am going to concentrate on gaining more clinical skills and improving my spoken English. I will work as a medical assistant in the private clinic I am now observing. I know for sure I will learn a lot from this hands-on experience. I am going to receive my ECFMG certification soon. I got the email from Fedex today telling me the package is on the way. Keep my fingers crossed for that.
