among the liver zones, 1, 2 and 3, Which area is most susceptible to injury, and why?

Goljan said zone 1 is around central vein, and its most susceptible to injury. why?

again, he said, in acetaminophen toxicity, arount central vein is most susceptible, because it gets the least amount O2, and therefore can not combat free radical injury.

can anyone clarify this for me please?

I did not listen to Goljan, so maybe someone else could tell more....

But I noticed you did not know the zones, as you see zone 3 is around the central vein, which is lowest on O2.

thanks a lot GG, i was not around, thanks for clearing this up, i think it was slip of tongue , he probably wanted to say zone 3 around central vein is susceptible to injury. thanks for the pic, i dont remember the names of zones, i only know the veins, and it makes sense, central vein is farthest from blood supply. thnx.nod

ok, its day one, 2nd cell injury lecture, at about 45 minutes and 19 seconds, there he said around central vein is zone 1. but 20 seconds later he said, around central vein is zone 3.

but, i was more confused because i wanted to verify this with the hand written lecture of previous test taker, i got from here, it was more incorrect. if you have that its on page 8th of microsoft word, if you have that.

tht was actually a slip of tongue i suppose...coz in btw he dint complete his sentence and jumped to description of three zones....
so there is no confusion
zone 1 has greatest bld supply
zone 2 intermediate with aedes aegypti infection and
zone 3 like renal medulla recieving least amount of bld supply....so decreased oxygen and susceptible to all injuries which decrease oxygen supply
like with acetaminophen ,carbontetrachloride toxicity

i hope this helps
