Hi, all.

This may sound like a wierd question to most of you. But, I'd really like to know if any SINGLE and FEMALE IMG has matched this year. i.e. you were not matched via Couples Match, nor are you dependant on spousal visa support., nor GC holder nor US citizen.

I ask this, coz I'm just realizing more and more each day how arduous this journey can get, family tends to be much more protective and reluctant to let a single female go 'alone'. Also, this thread could perhaps shed some light on the problems faced by us women who tread the IV trail by ourselves.

I hope those of you out there share your views, I look forward to them. Thanks very much.smiling face

GLO MD is in the house!! wink offcourse you can!! Give it up for all the sexy girl docs!! hahahaha I think it's even easier... no responsabilities but yourself! My family was really supportive though! But super doable!

Yeah Glo, that's what I'm talkin' about! I'm lucky too, that my fam's really supportive, emotionally and even financially. No responsibilities like kids etc, though I do look forward to them eventually, but just not yet.

Did you face any difference in how you were treated on the trail [I won't use the stronger word 'discriminated']. How did you manage all your travel by yourself? Have you lived in the US for a while now?

Aaaah, so many qns!

no no...it really is much easier than in India...maps, signs are functional, ppl dont stare too much if u know which locality to keep out of and all info on Internet...i booked beforehand everywhere...regarding housing i made lotsa friends on my IV trail and some were actually kind enuff to put me up when i went to their statesmiling face....but mostly stayed in hotels...during my observership we contacted some residents at the university and there was this hostel type place for IMGs who work at the univ...so lived there, tad expensive but very safe and close to the hospital...also tap alumni...seniors out there usually are cool about letting u stay if u dont act too clingy and take care of everything else like travel/food...well at least thats how i feltnod

Oh yes I traveled by myself!! It was so cool and liberating! Believe me you can do anything by yourself!! I did my research, planned my trips, I even did the tourist thing in some of the cities.... and most of them I had never been there!! You can do anything!! Imagine little GLO getting to JFK and traveling all over NY just by herself!!... no taxi!! only subway!! and I had a blast!! I had a nice breakfast in a little bistro while waiting for the statue of liberty tours to start!! believe me there is anything like knowing you are all by yourself and master of the universe!! hahahaha well master of your little universe!!

I talked and met a lot of people along my IV trail... from other applicants, people in the different programs to people in the streets, in the plane or in the bus or subway!! I even met an immigrant from Mexico who told me all kinds of interesting stories of how they manage to get inside the US w/o visa and all kinds of interesting things that I've never heard firsthand!

So it is deffinitely doable, fun and interesting!! Nowadays you can get almost everything over the internet! So it is very difficult to get lost!! even in the huge cities like NY which by the way has the best public transportation system ever!

So don't look at it as scary or intimidating and see it more as a great adventure to tell to your grandkids someday!! yes your grandma was a total adventurer!! hahaha

Adventurous Grandma!grin You got me laughing on that one, Glo!

So, basically, what I get is that you gotta be an extrovert, and people tend to be helpful. I think I can do that. I've got so much family there, heard so many stories and experiences, we're quite Westernized even here at home, but strangely enough, I've never visited the US yet. Looks like my big chance is coming right up. I think I can certainly handle and enjoy a jolly back-packing trip across the length and breadth of the US, but throw in a couple of application procedures, IVs, follow-ups, and exam or two and it takes a bit of the excitement out, and replaces it with anxiety!rolling eyesshaking head

Guys, if you don't mind my asking, how much did you spend, an approximation only, for the entire IV season, incl travel and accomodation. I know it totally depends on the no of IVs, obviously. But, any ballpark estimates, please?

Oooh yeah, it's doable! I don't fit into all your criteria (have GC and have been living in US for the last few years), but as a single female was travelling all around the country during this interview season. I don't have any family here and when I arrived few years back to start my research, I didn't know the single person here!
I really enjoyed travelling alone, used to plan my trip ahead, print all directions (from airport to hotel, from hotel to hospital etc.). Whenever I could I was trying to stay in a hotel which was providing free shuttle service from and to the airport. I used to make all my reservations online (hotels, flights, bus tickets), the whole planning was really exciting! Believe me, you will enjoy it!
I had 9 interviews and only one was in the town where I work, the remaining 8 were in places I have never been before (east, west, north, south, all over the Statessmiling face

Hi, all single females!!!
i'm back in my home country but still sharing stories of my interview travel with everyone. it was a once in a lifetime experience. i never knew travelling alone could be so much fun. and i totally agree with GLO MD, travelling in NY was a great experience. i would say if you have time spare a day or two after the interview for sight-seeing and just be ready for adventure.

hey girls! I didnt even know that Glo was a girl asn Oxi... my new best frien! jajaja life is really funny... I dont fit in the criteria either because I am not single and I have kids, but I have to say that it is great fun to go on your own!

Hey Ana you really didn't know that I'm a girl? hahahaha that's funny! Many people in this forum have told me that they thought that I'm a boy rolling eyes... don't know why!! anyways I'm a gorgeous girl-doc, single, no kids that loves medicine and also loves to have fun as I'm sure all of you are! cool hahahaha

Anyways... the way I see it, it's even easier to go through this whole process if you have no responsabilities... I actually take my hat off for all the hot mommies going for the match like you Ana!! that is what I call having lots of "cojones" !!! I could never do it!! You guys rock!!!
