I just got an email from my program. it says that I have to be certiffied by ACLS before orientation. As an IMG, I have no idea what it is. It seems like it is quite easy to do online. Anyone can shed lights here. highly appreciated!

ACLS stands for Advanced Cardiac life support....most of the hospitals offer that to their residents during their orientation free of cost others want them to do it before they come for orientation.....you can check out different hospitals websites in you area & see if tehy are offering ACLS classes ...it usually costs $250...but if u are not in US then I am not sure what's the procedure abroad for this & i don't know if the ACLS done outside US is acceptable heer in the US.

Hi. Does having the ACLS qualification offer you any benefit during the Match process? Thanks.

ACLS= advanced cardiac life support. If you are getting certified for the first time, you can't do the course online. Only renewals are possible online. It's a 2-day initial course, renewal is one day(if taking a real class) or online. In order to appear for ACLS you need to be current in BLS=basic life support. So if you don't have BLS yet, I recommend doing it first. You have 2 options. 1. ask your chief if yhe hospital offers BLS/ACLS . Then try to make arrangements to complete the classes before you start residency. 2. If you are already in the US, but not where you are going to start residency, just google acls/bls class and the location, maybe call some local hospitals...You'll find them. Good luck!

I agree that most hospitals offer it as part of orientation. That's why ask your chief first what your options are. paheli, I don't think that BLS/ACLS certification is of any big advantage during application process....Save yourself the money. If you match, most probably you'll get them for free.
