Pretty dumb,typical question. So someone please take pity on me.
I have not written my step 1 yet, will be taking it by the end of summer. I am in my first clinical right now. I will continue them, and hopefully finish by next year spring.
I was wondering what material is useful in succeeding this test? for Usmle step 2.
i am assuming, kaplan books, as well as first aid. ist here anything else used? also a question source such as qbank or UW.
i am thinking of trying to finish a kaplan book as the rotation goes on, and that way at the end of my rotations and at my study time i am familiar with the book by then.
how long does it typically take to be prepared for this test?
i know some people said step one took them 3 months, some took a year, two years. what is the typical time for step 2.

i just think it is important to get a fair idea now while i am learning my clinicals. i sure wish someone had told me what to use for step 1 while i was still in school learning my basic sciences, it would have helped me get familiar with my study materials at an earlier stage and probably do a bit better. I just want to know ahead of time, so i can make the most of my time.

Hi, star! Nice to meet you here in the CK forum.
Well, as you already mentioned, it takes different time periods for different poeple, i.e. depends on how much time they can set aside for their prep, their prior knowledge, their speed etc. But, typically, 2CK takes less time than Step 1. I think that's because there is less stuff to cram, less abstract drive-you-crazy nuggets of info, that were so critical to pass Step 1.
As far as material goes, the general consensus is KLN, UW and Crush Step2/Secrets. Both of the last 2 books I've mentioned are written by the same guy, just presented differently. Hence, you can buy whichever you like or use whichever you happen to have. FA for 2CK does not seem to be as popular and indispensable as the one for Step 1 was.
