For a while I was thinking to gather those fellows like me who are old IMGs who couldn't get matched in any program and see what we can do and how much can we be optimistic!
In regards to my background, graduated 1997, wasn't completely away from medicine following graduation. I practiced, did medical research with publications, took post-grad internship in a third country and ECFMG certified.
My USMLE scores are not fascinating! but I was very open to any program, any where but unfortunately didn't have any interview!
So,I was thinking of making a supporting group of bunch of people with the same situation to see what we can do to push and support each other.

Hey fellow!
Good job! I am in the same boat! But really impressed that you and I are the only poor people here! Sounds to me that everybody except you and me is below 35 with a good score! Have you had any US experience?

Hi fellas,
I am so sad that there are people like us who invested a lot on the exams, long time process of immigration and moving to North America, jobless-unemployed periods, sacrificing a lot of daily living lives, doing a long time volnteering even we are in huge shortage of money to get a LOR, having published papers to make our CV more attractive, getting recommendation letters from every where and finally got nothing in return!
I personally sacrificed a lot of things in my life for my education and couldn't get what I wanted! And I am sure most of you did too.
I also got zero interview in the last two years!
I am sooooooooooooooooooooo depressed!

Hi not so old folks, all of you graduated later than me, a 1993 graduate. I didn't attend this year's match (CS result still pending). But I believe everyone can get a match if we know our shortcomings and try to change that into our strong areas. I believe for an old graduate, the most important parts should be gaining USCE, and getting some nice connections. I just heard from a friend who matched this year to Pedicatrics, with both 80s for step 1 and ck, graduated 20 years ago, said one of his classmates got matched too with both high 70s into Pathology. So don't ever get frustrated. Try again this time, and best wishes.

I am not a good exam taker! I have borderline USMLE scores. I am also ECFMG certified. I applied twice for US match, last year and this year and also for Canadian match this year and got not matched! I had LOR from Canada and Europe in my CV and got zero interview from nearly 90 programs that I applied for the US and 30 for Canada! I failed 2 US matches, 2 US scrambles and one Canadian 1st iteration match and one Canadian 2nd iteration match!! I am veryyyyyyyy unlucky! I wasted a lot of money and time! I am sooooooooooooo much depressed! Sorry to disappoint you but no chance for us I think! I gave up today!!

dr9576, sorry to hear your story. But again, I believe if you don't give up, you can get a match. I won't be disappointed by what you said, I would only be disappointed by myself if i didn't try harder to get what I dreamed of. Past is past. Now look ahead, and try as hard as you can to gain USCE would work.

There days there are several good paying opportunities for Medical Graduates in non-clinical areas in the hospitals. After several years of trying to get residency placement I took up the position as a Clinical Documentation Specialist. It pays about $50,000 a year. In fact, several hospitals in Southern California are looking for candidate. I will gladly forward your resumes to some of the hospitals that are approached me for vacant positions with them.

Hi Jflood. Thanks for posting. Would you please explain a bit more about the job? Do you take history and document the patient's information?

HI everyone.. Thank you for starting this thread, nothing like a good support group for our batch to help us get through the match.
Are you guys going to submit an MSPE or a Dean's letter? I'm anxious about the gaps that will be very much evident on the MSPE.

I graduated in 2003. Since then I was a stay at home mom of 3 children. Now that my children are a little bit older I am able to sit down and study for my exams. I will take step 1 in October, 1st attempt. I have no visa problems, I was born here, in the USA.
However, today I meet a doctor who tried the match in 1997 and said that he did not match anywhere...... I was devastated, to hear that he did not match anywhere, also an img.
It has been 5 years since I was out of school, he says that this would look very bad on my cv and that it would be very hard for me to get a residency. I feel hopeless, I invested and I am sure we all have invested a lot of time and not to mention money, especially with the Kaplan courses.....trying to pass these exams and getting matched into a residency...
What are my chances..... Has anyone been in the same situation?

its very difficult to get a spot now a days. If you applied years before, do not reapply to the same programs, they automatically leave those out. Apply to programs like new york or jersey. Also sometimes scores not matter much. they must be good, but not excellent. Try to write your own personal statement. and the most important thing, apply early with all your documents. applying with pending documents does not help. Each interview costs the program about 100 - 200 dollars, so the must really invest into something strong. Not on promises. the only people that can get awy with promises are us grads.

Hey Guys, How r u all ?? This is my 1st time to post here, I'm not in ur exact situation but kinda similar, i've passed CK with low score on 2nd attempt, passed Step1 with a mid 80 score and now got Visa Denial twice in US embassy, i can't attend my CS .. So, i think it makes me just like u ... in the middle of No where .. However, I got to know that New Zealand accepts Drs. with USMLE Step1 & 2 CK .. and asks them to set for an Exam. similar to the CS .. called the NZREX exam. ... USA is not the end of the world .. and we gotta explore other options ... does anyone here Explored that Option ??
