Doctor_mhl: Its always better to take step 1 first then step 2 next. The knowledge of step 1 supplements for step 2. But its also said that if you are a recent grad or med student and are doing rotations in wards and doing clinical subjects then taking step 2 first is also a good option, provided you are confident in your clinical subjects.

doc750: indeed it feels better to be relieved but I hope and pray to God its permanent relief. The anxiety still hangs till the result is in...I have no idea how i performed. So, as if now I have my fingers crossed. Help me God!

Though it sounds in appropriate as I havent yet got my score and I don't have any clue where I stand but if you insist I can give my opinion on them:
  1. Kaplan = Best source but too lengthy, I can't keep myself concentrated while reading it. The style it has doesn't match mine. In few days before exam, its a very hard task to revise the whole stuff from it, at least to me.
  2. FA= Second best source to study from. Infact, my main source as I devoted my last month entirely to it reading it over and over again. Its a big book, detailed and doable at the end. Surgery isn't much and I am not happy with its Psych and Biostats. For that I think Kaplan is better.
  3. Secrets= Best book to clear concepts, a MUST DO to clear your concepts. Highly recommended from me
  4. Crush= Again, didn't like its style and format though its from the same author so I didn't do it
  5. B&W= Its good but too concise and insufficient, wouldn't recommend.
  6. See some CTs, MRIs and Xrays.
  7. Heart sounds you can check from this websitehttp://www.blaufuss.org/

thank you oldkidontheblock wink
i'm trying to do my best these months (the final month in college ) and consider my study is for both college and ck >
and take it shortly after my med sch. exams .
i think this will save me much more time rather than starting with step1 which will need so much effort confused
what do you think?

  #38

one more Q ... do you think I should review pharma from at least step 1 FA for common side effects of drugs ? any lots of Qs that are not covered in kpln and UW about that topic ??

plzz forgive my now and future buzzings in your holiday with the dentist gaal sticking out tongue

doctor_mhl: Its a good idea to go for CK first but mind you don't take it lightly, its tough too. Yes, if you study for CK say 4 months full time then you can go for Step1. On the other hand if you do step1 first, it needs at least 6 months of full time study then by that time you will forget CK stuff. It makes sense to write CK first, but the choice is yours. If you are confident, go ahead with it.

Feyza: Pharma is doable. I think you don't need to do it from step 1 stuff. If you are doing Kaplan and plan to revise from review books like secrets or FA, its all in there.

Paheli: Thankyou so much. Now do not cross your toes as people may think you are having a panic attack and hyperventilating giving you a carpo-pedal spasm, then you may end up with a psychiatrist....grinhahaha. Thankyou again for your support.

oldkid... you keep warning us about taking trauma seriously ... this morning I started to read surgery and to my surprise trauma chapter is 13 pages, 2-3 lines for each topic... should I be adding anything else ?????

Trauma just not mean Head Injury perse. It includes everything be it ortho or surgical. Management of acute surgical conditions and fractures. I think Kaplan surgery (whole book) is enough if done properly and adding UW is definitely a plus. Don't panic but don't ignore them either.

I do a pharm review course for step I students and I pretty much use FA, and UW notes for the outline. There were only 2 drugs I didn't recognize or know the answer to, right off the bat. On my exam all the drugs were well covered in FA (>90%). There was quite a bit of pharm on my exam as well, so make sure you do look over it in the the step I FA.

So far step III, is just like studying for step II all over again. grin
