If I didn't match at my #1 choice. Should I send an email or thank you letter to the programs where I didn't match, especially those where I had electives before. just want thank you them for giving the opportunity to get to know US system. Is this appropriate? Will they feel offended or awkward if I do so...or just leave them alone? Sorry about this weird Q. Thank you.

It would be weird. A letter to a staff person who wrote you a letter would be appropriate, but to the program? Don't worry about it.
