Hello bbb
I am confused about this PG1 year, PG2 year, preliminery year, transition year, etc .'
could you please elaborate the differences? and also If I wanted to apply for only one year so that I can look for another place the next year ,is that possible?
thankyou.

Then you will be applying for a transitional year or a preliminary year of medicine. There is also a preliminary year of surgery. I am not certain about the other specialties, the ACMGE web pages would be a place to start.

thank you so much for responding so fast, bbb
If it's not too much to ask , do you think it's easy to get into such positions, from your experience? if I ,say, just apply for either of the one for the 2005 match ,would that help me to get into more competitive programmes either in internal medicine or surgery after that?

Please remember that PDs will ask you why you are changing programs? Why wouldn't you just apply for the program that you are looking for? In my program, we don't take a person in the prelim spots unless they have a guaranteed position for the following year.

Good luck

Thankyou
It's just that people around me are telling me that to get into a "good" program( I don't even know what that means anymore , maybe in one of the well known institutions) having us clinical experience is a must.
Anyway , you've raised good points , I 'll have to think about it and decide.
what would we do without you!!
