a week before the exam, i made myself wake up daily at 6 am, and sit down for the exam at 930 am. and didnt get up til 530. i literally paced myself the entire time so the day of my exam it was just any other day. and i was able to get through the pitfalls of test taking through the week. personally i am a very fast reader and writer, i ws done by 2pm. and that was with me putting in a lot of unnecessary reading and rereading and rereading. i suggest you practice a few days before to get over your jitters of what if you mess up, and go through the usmle cd ecfmg sends you, on how to use the controls. which are the same as usmle world anyways. try to figure out what you will eat in advance so you don't eat food that makes you bloated or nauseous or sleepy. even try eating that food a day in advance to make sure. also you will feel like about 5 pounds has been taken of f your shoulders when you are done teh test, just the sheer nerves over teh last few months will just melt off. your eyes will be strained and hurting, so i immediately closed them for a while after just to ail them. try stretching out a bit in between washroom breaks, maybe giving your forehead a mini finger massage. also dress well. there is a rule that whatever you wear into the exam is what you keep on. you can't take off your sweatshirt and put it on your waist or toss it on your side. so you have to get up in between to remove or grab your clothing perhaps.

what worked for me was eating a good breakfast before: eggs, and toast, and of course coffee..i took a break between every block and ate a mini snicker's bar, and took a few sips of mountain dew or coke (regular, not diet). and then went back in. for lunch i had a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich...and drink water during the day too, but not too much...and taking 5 minutes between every block to go to the bathroom, and stretch is a good idea. dont worry, once you're there, your adrenaline will kick in, and you'll definitely make it through the 8 hours...it's never as bad the day of the exam. once you're done the first 3 blocks, the rest will go by fast.

oh also.. when i was doing my actual test, i was so exhausted I almost had times where i just felt like rushing through it, to just take a nap after . that is so terrible and non studious-i know but i was TIRED. but it could be that, i was up the night before being so nervous.
