I took my exam yesterday evening.I studied 3 Weeks for exam.Didnt get study partner.So practised cases with my mommy.BIG THANKS to her.This forum helped me too.Thanks to all those who contributed their exam experience.Above all GOD gave me the courage to take exam.I dont know how to thank HIM.
I studied mainly FIRST AID and little bit of USMLE WORLD.I was not that confident and since there is no way to assess my clinical skills I decided to attend Kaplan 5 day class.I am glad I did the 5 DAY class.The first 2 days were just waist of money.They taught about the CIS skills on the first 2 days.Nothing new.Just review of First Aid and USMLE WORLD.The next day we had 2 patient encounter with feedback.I liked it.The 4 th day was really good.we had 11 patient encounters with feedback.As per their report I should pass unless it was a bad day for me.As expected my PN was the one to improve.This is really important and to be honest I didnt realise it before.So I tried to concentrate on my PN next 3 days.These 3 DAYS I wrote like 8 to 10 PN all timed and evaluated myself.
The day before my exam I arrived in chicago.Stayed in Holiday Inn.They have free shuttle from Airport to hotel and also to CS centre.The night before exam I went to bed by 9.30.By 10.30 I might have fallen asleep.I woke up at 5.30.Couldnt sleep after that.I always have trouble falling asleep the day before exam with frequent awakenings.My exam was at 3pm.I felt tired by 12 pm.So drank some tea ,had a good lunch and went to CS centre.I arrived by 2.10.I had to wait till 2.30 to go to the 6 th floor where the CS centre is located.In my group there were like 2 IMG's and rest were all AMG's.Almost all of them whom I spoke yesterday matched in their choice of speciality .I was nervous little bit as I thought SP's might compare me with them which might affect the final scoring.I prayed GOD to help me .
My first few encounters went well.Then there was one lady which showed some facial expression which made me think if she was uncomfortable with me or not.This happened when I spoke to her in my normal voice.She was old .May be she has difficulty in hearing in real life.Then i started talking to her in loud voice,louder than my usual voice.By the end she was ok.I draped her after 1 physical examination.Few SP's were smiling.The rest of them had no change in their facial expression.I dont know if thats normal.I tried to be as polite as I can.
The cases were similar to those in FIRST AID and USMLE WORLD.But there is a vague picture in many cases.I read the post of Neopulsar.I felt the same too.Please try to memorise the differentials in MINICASES in first aid.It will help a lot.I asked about social support in almost all cases with old people.In 1 case ,it was also old person the drape fell down when she stood I used the same again.Otherwise I felt exam was OK.My PN was better than before.Time was just enough for neuro cases.Other cases may be I finished 1 to 2 mts back.
My exam finished at 10 PM.I called Holiday Inn and they gave me shuttle back to hotel.I prayed to GOD once again after I arrived.Thanks once again to all those who contributed their exam experience in this forum.

Thanks SUPRA and RX135.I wish you all the best.I am not going to dig into the depths of each case now.God has a plan for each of us.Whatever it is I want to accept it without much worry.That is my prayer to GOD now.Thanks and GL to all.

I am sorry eightballmd and RX135.Discussing cases in CS is irregular behaviour and USMLE will permanently prohibit those people in attaining residency.So I cannot email /discuss the cases.I wish you all the Best.

congrats..hey have kaplan clases too frm 31st march to 4th april and have cs exam on 9th april...any special tips or suggestions to do that 4 days in between classes and cs exam..

Hi caduceus_indya,Kaplan will increase ur confidence level.Also the last day they will give you a report which shows your performance in various components of CS .So if it is your patient note which has to improve concentrate on that for next 4 days.Wish you all the Best.

Thank you harry.I read your exam experience.Congrats.I also wrote PAMHUGSFOSS and LIQOR AAA just after I hear the announcement ''This encounter may now begin''.It helped a lot.In some cases where I feel I won't have much time to take a detailed history I skip some points from PAMHUGSFOSS.But I aways made sure I asked everything regarding Chief Complaint.Offered help to old persons while standing from lying down position/walking.Remember to dry your hands even if it means you have to take lots of tissue.I know it might sound silly.But one of the patients told me my hands are cold when I examined her abdomen.I rubbed my hands togather although she said its not needed .But I heard CIS is the one difficult to pass.So I thought even if I miss little time for ICE ,I should better concentrate on making SP happy

Yes I agree with you anujaise. I think this exam test more on how we communicate with the patient and establishing rapport with them. Showing empathy and being sensitive to them is very important. I still can't believe that I passed. Hard work and Prayer is the answer. God bless to those who are still waiting for their results and those who will take it in the future.
