I came across this in Langman, but i do not understand a thing about it..sad
What is HOX gene in the first place?
What does it do in development process?
Does the HOX gene actually a gene or a group of other gene that have the same job?

The hox genes are a complex of genes involved in the anterior-posterior body pattern formation in humans, such as neural tube, vertebrae, GI tract, limbs, heart tube genitourinary tract (mesonephric and paramesonephric ducts). In other words, the homeotic genes or hox genes give heach cell a positional identity so that each cell "knows" where it is located in the basic body plan. i.e. to position the limbs at the side of the torax, not on top of the head (this is a funny way to view or interpret it).
Hope this two cents of explenation helps.sticking out tongue
