Dear Madam, I matched at one of the IM programs where I interviewed. All of them were H1 sponsoring programs. Right now I am preparing for Step3 and should be ready to take in near 10th April and my result will come in May 2nd week and then onwards I can start my h1 visa processing thru premium process. Now this is MY plan...Do u think that programs wait for candidates to pass their steps and get on their preferred visa Or they force you to go on J1? How should I approach this matter. Your reply will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for you time.

You could be in trouble. You are taking Step 3 later than most programs are comfortable with. What happens if you don't pass (gods forbid)?

If you are looking at a fellowship post residency, then the J1 visa is the smarter way to go. Many more fellowships will sponsor J1 visas than H1 visas.
