dear bbb and others what do u think has contributed MAXIMUM to the increase in number of applications sent to each programs this year ?
1) real increase in number of individuals applying
2)all applicants felt very insecure and applied to manmy more programs than they did last year
3)the trend of applying a back up specialty has increased (like someone wanting peds applying FM for back up.
I think number 2 has contributed the maximum. as a result programs felt kind of over confident (with so many applications) and they mismanaged their rank lists (kept them short) and hence there was an increase in UNMATCHED spots despite increase in number of applicants.
What is your opinion

1- Maybe they were thinking this one will never choose us with those credentials, and because of that they went empty ___________________ As a general rule, the better it felt when you said it, the more trouble it's going to get you into.

I thought the unfilled positions will be posted tomorrow...How do you know that there is an increase in unfilled spots already?
