angel23 wrote: i dont why all the people on an average hav scores above 95....is it really so? peopl dont get scores nowadays in 80,s ...is it true??? this post is not at all inspiring for people like me who hav in early 80s and who need visa.... kindly help are there any people with 80s credentials who got matched....????? anyone....for moral boost up?????? thanks Hey angel23, Yes no doubt everyone should aim for high scores but look at me when I scored 79 in Step 1 I scanned the forums to find anyone like me who matched, at that point to be able to say that I MATCHED AT MY NO 1 CHOICE was not only a dream, but a dream I could never dream. But I did match, so do not loose hope. USCE is very important, try to knock on as many doors as possible some will say no, but some will say yes and who knows that yes might take you towards your dream. Also if possible look for observerships in places you would like to match, that was the key in my case, length does not matter where matced I observed only for a short 1 month, on the other hand I have more than 6 months observership experience at this other hospital which did not even invite me for the interview. Key is hard work and visibility during USCE. Just observership to add to your resume is not enough there are thousands of us for every single position, making the most of that chance is important, give presentations, present case reports, actively participate in any scholarly activity you can, try to answer before residents do, read as much during observership as much you did during preparation for steps. The rest is good luck and gods blessings.

Nationality also does matter. Many good University programs prefer people from Europe or Carribean. They are sometimes considered equal to AMG(esp. with GC) and get more IV , from better programs. We can not apply IMG credentials to every cases.

Agree with jingimg 100%. You can see the difference by going thru this thread. Carribean/European grads with similar credentials applied to fewer number of places, got more interviews and number of prematches recieved were also higher. Moral of the story "All Img's are not created equal" LOL

Every program wants diversity which makes it difficult for people from South Asia, I do not have the exact number but around 80% plus applicants are from these countries. Most of the upper tier programs look for credentials, and by credentials by no means I am referring to 99/99/99, but it does help. Credentials include but is not limited to your personal statement, your life experience, what have you done so far which makes you exceptional and highly in demand for a program. If you get 99 but that is all the meat you have to your bones trust me it wont take you very far. Work on your application. Gain experience, learn Spanish, work at the local community center.......well whatever but it should be genuine, something you believe in, something which makes you special.

Congratulations everyone and thanks for sharing very important info but I was wondering why just few matched colleagues have posted the place where they did observership/externship. It is understandable to keep confidential the hospital matched but the USCE place. I know that I may be asking too much since you guys have already contributed a lot but it will be so helpful for the new applicants. There is thread of USCE/observership/externship but very poor in information.

I agree Ivonne. It'd certainly be a great help if people here posted where they did their observership/externship from. Lookin for USCE is a big pain in the neck, and people who have already done it could really help out...
