Hey guys I have come across many post in which people are discussing whether receiving the scramble advisory from eras means that ERAS is mentally preping us for being unmatched..........and that by receiving the scramble advisory it means that we are not going to match.

Please guys spare me.......I am simply trying to clear the air. I personally believe that this idea is not worth gnawing on. But just tossing you a carrot to chew on till match daywink

Even with this experience, you have no any moral right or privilege to post this advice... You might not match because of your unique personality not credentials... No summary as this one is needed...

Interesting reply "Justice"

Do you think personality counts as an overwhelming factor...Unless its too Obviousraised eyebrow

My personality does need to be worked on........But The situation here is a fact.

dear Justice,

Why do you say I dont have the moral right to say this? I have seen to much Its from My experience that I am saying this ........Its not an adivice ..I feel that people need to be cognizant of what they are getting into.

I think that its getting tough for average IMGS like me....Thats all I meant. Nothing more...Who knows I may yet match and so may you.

Good Luck to you man

Nice post, WR. As for how and whether to decide to apply, I'll reserve my opinion, coz most people here are in too deep to simply up and pack off back home. Still, we all have different reasons to do what we have decided to do. For some, the trade-off may seem to be fair.

But, I like the rest of your post, where you wrote about the OTHER side of this all, which rarely gets discussed on the forum. We all go on and on and on about prep and score and apps, i'views, lists, prematches..............not about the real part of actually doing so. Where do you stay, how is it there, how and what do you eat, how much does a meal cost, safety issues. Things we'd all love to know more about, but too scared/shy to ask, maybe we feel this is the wrong place. But where IS the right place, if not here?

With my savings at an all time low, I'm wondering how the heck I'm going to make all this happen. I'll eventually have to loan out from my family.

Anyway, if you do find the time to ever put down your experiences on paper, I'll try to find the time to read it.

All the best, WR.

Thanks

This post was originally intended for the purpose of getting the poll. My story of the other side was just a spontaneous outburst of feeling.....I want to tell this cause I feel this is very important.

I have moved that section of my original post to a new post titled"To all new Applicants 2009" which talks about the other side so that should some MOD get mad at me for whatever reason he/she may not delete the post and hence my poll be lost.

please see

To be honest, it was your rant that I connected with, coz since I did not apply this past year, I have nothing to add to the poll. Good luck again.

What do you think are criteria PDs use to rank all 99/99-ers? Maybe, personal statement and your CV, which both reflect your personality and achievements... If personality did not play a significant role, no need for in-visit interview would exist. Telephone conversation to check your language fluency would be sufficient...

Hey Paheli....You mentioned "rant"....... Why do you use that word.....Do you believe its rhetoric.......or is it too emotional............would it benefit anyone.......Please comment on How I may make it more clearer and more informative !

Thanks

AND Good luck.............Let me know how you are doing......have you done with all your steps yet?

I don't think it's a good idea to dwell into this matter. According to this email, everyone who has registered with ERAS receive this Scramble Advisory, so I do not think it is a prediction of the Match outcome.
Quote from the email:
"This Advisory is to educate applicants about how ERAS may be used during the
2008 Scramble period. Receiving this Advisory does not imply anything
whatsoever about your NRMP Match status. All registered ERAS users will
receive this notice. It should be used as a resource in preparation for the
Scramble period, should you need it."

TO EVERYONE WHO'S IN THIS YEAR'S MATCH: BEST OF LUCK TO ALL OF US!smiling face

I used that word, coz it sounded genuine and unedited. I also think along those lines a lot. I hope I did not offend you, WR, that was not my intention.

Am currently in that no-man's-land called 'Waiting-for-my-results'!! I just took Step 1 so far, and hopefully, it's behind me for good. Long way to go yet...........and Match 09 is almost here.

Paheli, I was more concerned about the way I presented things. Wheter it was relevant, useful .....especially since it was an unplanned spontaneous post.

Good luck with your step 2. Dont wait for S1 results. Go on and start prep for S2. Use Usmle World in timed mode, Kap q bank, Kap notes, make notes from the explanations of the Usmle World and Kap Q bank on to the side page of your kap notes. Spend only 3 months on prep.

Dont take CS too lightly or seriously. Do usmle ste123 for cs prep. Get an online partner or a real life partner for your prep. Use your hubby as a patient if nobody helps out. practice writing down the case on the CS note pad provided in the first aid to CS. Use only these 2 resources for CS. Get ECFMG cert as soon as possible.

Good luck

As for me I cant sleep. I just had a long walk, went to a Jap-Thai restaurant. The waiter who served me food was friendly,,.......too much I say ....As son as he knew I was indian, He said....Hmm Indians...all my indian friends make spicy food.....He added chilli sauce in all my dishes............Never in my life did the spice come out thro my nose..............Other wise food was good............walked 2 miles back home.....still cant sleep...........going to have a glass of champagne(the only drink I can take.I cant drink beer....or anything stronger....I picked up this habit out of loneliness in US.never used to drink in my country...)

Now I will have a drink and watch Starship troopers on my laptop..........hope I get some sleep soon...have to prep my scramble docs tomorow.

Hope you get good scores in S1....good luck my friend

Oh Justice Sorry didn't see your post my friend.........Well..........I don't have all the answers.like you I am a traveler.......Hoping to find the Olive tree of my dreams.

I cant speak for how people make decisions, .........I have met a lot of people in my life.........My experience is that its tough to judge a person in a few minutes. Unless the person is very gross.......I am sure its to weed out such bad characters that the IV's are set up. But for the most part If I were an PD I would be terrified of making a choice. Of any 10 given candidates in a room.........I can make out 5 would not be appropriate epole to work with ...............But what about the other 5 and all the other 5's in the previous and subsequent batches. They are all good people with good creds like the 5 people I can weed out in a part IV batch............after a certain point level the decisions cannot be rationalized. thats where the luck factor starts to weigh in.

I dont have the answers........I am sure the PD's dont have either.

All I can say is from the lyrics of the song by ABBA "The winner takes it all"

"I dont wanna talk
About the things we've gone through
Though its hurting me
Now its history
Ive played all my cards
And thats what youve done too
Nothing more to say
No more ace to play

The winner takes it all
The loser standing small
Beside the victory
Thats her destiny"

"...The gods may throw a dice
Their minds as cold as ice
And someone way down here
Loses someone dear
The winner takes it all
The loser has to fall
Its simple and its plain
Why should I complain....."

Good luck my friend my champagne is waiting and the troopers are ready for battle.

And my dear Justice

I dont wanna talk
If it makes you feel sad
And I understand
Youve come to shake my hand
I apologize
If it makes you feel bad
Seeing me so tense
No self-confidence
But you see
The winner takes it all
The winner takes it all...
