what does it happen?

  #4

explain 2 terms n wth few differences ! is any one of them synonymous wth nephrogenic or neurogenic?

  #5

they are not synonymous for sure
the diffecence...?

  #6

Polydipsics due to a condition (i.e. diabetes) will show polyuria regardless, whereas psychogenic polydipsics, will begin to concentrate their urine when deprived.

(i think)

  #7

psychogenic -sure concentrates urine by deprivation

  #8

absolutely right

In Primary Polydipsia there has been too much of intake of water leading to a fall in osmolarity....low ADH so the excess water is not reabsorbed in the distal tubule/collecting tubule hence a hypoosmolarity urine.
In Psychogenic Polydipsia there is water intoxication and there is usually a constant volume is excreted in relation to the sodium.....therefore the urine osmolarity is higher....but ADH levels remain low(opposite to SIADH).Psychogenic polydipsia usually also present with a psychiatris history or a drug in take and have symptoms of psychosis.

Water deprivation is used in diagnosis of Diabetes Insipidus.....can it differentitate the above 2 simply because DI is a type of Psychogenic Polydipsia?

primary polydipsia - Pt really needs water. He'll get up int he middle of the night to drink it.

psychogenic polydispsia - Pt thinks he needs water. He'll sleep through the night without thirst.
