cant believe it! well thank god! its over! can start for step 2 at last. 240/97 was really not what i expected!!

hello to everyone. i just finished writing step 1 on feb 29th. was not hard and not easy either. i felt the blocks toward the end were slightly easier than the the beginning. they had all the usual stuff. CT scans were there-an inguinal hernia, splenic vein, brain. they had histopathology-thyroid gland, sq cell ca. also gross specimens-brain to identify the mammilary bodies, brainstem for Cr Nv 6. the behavioral questions were all ok. nothing too hard. one specificity problem. they had 2 questions on telomerases and 2 on imprinting. most of it was pathology, phramac, and physio. all the graphs from physio were there. but it was a well balanced exam. there were a couple of tough ones but not many. not amny questions from virology. think like 3 or 4. had 2 questions from blastomycoses in the same block!
went for the kaplan live lectures which helped a lot. well i used the kaplan notes and hi yield for anatomy. and first aid in the last week. took around 4 1/2 months. i did the kaplan q-bank which is very similiar to the exam. but i feel the real exam is not as tough as q-bank. the usmle cd is too easy i thought. the real test is not that easy. i also did q-book. i used to meet up once a week with my study group and we used to discuss questions from the q-book on each subject. now the tough part is over. good luck to all writing the exam!

GOOD LUCK FOR STEP 2 AND CS AS WELL.CAN U PLEASE TELL ME WHETHER KAPLAN PHYSIOLOGY IS GOOD ENOUGH OR I SHOULD USE BRS PHYSIOLOGY ALSO WITH KAPLAN. ALSO FOR ANATOMY ,IS IT REALLY NEEDED TO READ HIGH YIELD .I AIM IN HIGH 90S.I HAVE ONLY 50 DAYS LEFT.PLEASE HELP ME .ONCE CONGRATS FOR GREAT SCORE

had a doubt what was your score in q bank,kaplan simulated test&usmle cd??
am giving my exam on the 30 of this mth,my q bank i am scoring around68-85% with average of 72/73%
how much did you score?how much should one be scoring to get above 90?
please share your study strategy with us,i dont know why but am doing badly in micro,guess need better revision of the topic...
i am really worked up right now,wondering how bad am going to do the test.. :?

I think kaplan notes r more than enough. high yield gross anatomy, neorology, histology and embryology should be used also. regarding my various test scores-
q-bank-75%
kaplan simulated test-74%
kaplan diagnostic test (150 questions) prior before starting my preparation - 56%
USMLE cd-44, 41, 39
do first aid in the last week before the exam. q-bank is a good measure of the exam. its about the same. the real exam is slightly easier though. i suggest when q-bank is done do it as mixed blocks, dont do each subject. u get a better feel of the exam. regarding the performance on the real exam with each subject- the worst was genetics, 2nd worst was cell biology and 3rd was behavioral sciences. most important thing is too be consistent when u study. and hi yield material wil come and know that well.

congratulations!
good luck for step 2.
i have a question to u.do u think kaplan pathology is really good enough for step 1 with qbank since most people say we should supplement it with either goljan or brs pathology.please give me a good advice .i am also giving my exam in 4 months after kaplan center course.
but not feeling prepared yet

i do not think the kaplan notes for pathology r enough. we had golijan for live lectures and we got his book. i highly advise everryone to get that book of his. excellent. he is unbelievable. 2 days before the exam i only read his book and nothing else. it touches almost all aspects of each subject. i highly recommend his book. good luck!!!!

the book for pathology by golijan were his kaplan notes which were his copyright. there is no specific name. but i think his other textbooks r somewhat similiar. i am not exactly sure. anyway this book had 150 questions, a hi yield section covering all the subjects and a pathology section. i think his new book came out in march which can be bought. his kaplan notes i think can be bought on ebay. not sure though.
