Hi Simon,
I have had a quick look at your progress.
First to say
FA good as outline only and UW the best.
If you asked me useful ness of resources.
about 7 q very similar to UW.
about 5 q from goljan audio
kaplan qbank is what I call independently difficult and I
did not find it helpful at all( I can not recall one qs on this qb on my exam,
and if it was it probably was on uw as well).
Rx gives you idea of length of qs, much longer than UW and I
would rate this qbank above kaplan.
Rx very repetitive and maybe a few qs from this qb, to be
expected since it fills out FA a bit.
So I found best use of my time was reading the explanations
from UW. I did not do the qs again since you can guess the ans,
so save time and read the answers 3 times. (read all the wrong explanations as well)
I sat exam 2 days ago.
Qbook best strategy for doing mcqs.
There are so many give aways on the exam, basic concepts, so it is imp. not to miss them.

Thank you commit, usmlekiller and veteran for your kind suggestions. Thank you very much gray10 for posting your exam experience in my journal, I really appreciate it, I plan on renewing the UW subscription for a month. I will make every effort to comprehensively review the explanation. All the best with your score.

Had a relaxing evening with the family. Will have some distractions today and tomorrow due to a friends family visit and some family goings. Will try and utilize all the time I can grab these two days.

Happy studying friends.

Thank you usmlekiller and study499.

Started redoing all the incorrect q's in Qbank. Did a block and scored only 48% (all users average-42%). These questions I have done once, and read the explanations, and still got only half correct!! Too bad. I need to revise and own the notes I had taken from UW and Qbank.
50 days to October 20th (presumptive exam date)

Plan: Focus on weak areas from the last NBME (Hemato, Genetics, Biochem, Nutrition, Micro/Immuno, RS) and other subject/system areas. Will plan on doing next NBME on September 29th. Goal - 550.

Happy studying friends. New month, New opportunities.

Thank you commit, usmlekiller and target for your kind post. I am a day behind in reporting, as we had a bad weather yesterday and didnt get a chance to visit the journal.

Yes, target I had a jittery start but am stabilizing my efforts. Finished listening to Goljan hemato lectures, they were good. I hope i had retained a lot of what i heard. Started with Genetics chapters in NMS. Will continue on focusing my weak areas.
47 days to presumptive exam date

Did a block on incorrect q's in kaplan qbank yesterday and scored 60%. Not as much as i want to get. Learning more this time around revising the Kaplan qbank.

Happy studying friends.

Simon, Seems like you are settling back in your new routine nicely. Dont lose your momentum though you work full time and your weekends are distracting. Do the best with your time- like you have said before, try to work smarter, not harder.

Genetics is very high yield, however, it can also be labor intensive with not much gain if you get into the depths of it. Please do the select chapters and take notes if required so you dont have to get the book out for exam time revision. The biochemistry book also gives some basic genetics stuff.

With 47 days for the exam, it would be nice if you have a plan set upto the exam date (or your next NBME date as your plan may vary depend on your weak areas from there) with leeway for error built-in so that even if you miss upto 5 days of study altogether because of distractions, you will still be well on target. I used to make my plan with my "built in error margin" and then try to do better than my plan, so that when things did not go as planned, I did not have to panic as I had time to make up and when things went my way, I would sneak in a movie or a work out treat for we all need breaks. Now you seem to have plenty of time, but time moves quickly closer to exam and we dont be caught off-guard!

All the best! Will keep track of your progress!
