Thank you commit, study499 and usmlekiller. Have a productive weekend.
16 days to NBME, and 28 days for presumptive exam date

Cant believe its August already. Am I getting closer to taking the real exam? My NBME will tell me, I guess.

Did a block in Reproduc, scored 62%, with 3 silly mistakes. It was tougher than i really thought it would be, mainly with the hormone actions.

I really want to finish Kaplan Q bank at least once before my next NBME, completed only a third so far! Will see how it goes.

Had a good family time yesterday evening.

Have a productive weekend everyone.

Off to RS.

  #264

15 days to NBME, 27 days to presumptive exam date

Reviewed RS and did a block, scored 65%, still 3 silly mistakes. I have to work on reading the question carefully. All 3 mistakes could have been avoided had I read the question carefully.

Off for the day.

14 days to NBME, 26 Days to presumptive exam date

Reviewed GI and did a block, scored 70%! which is what i had expected, so happy with it. Still 2 silly mistakes!! One strategy which i tried today in reading the question was - to read the first line and the last line of the question, glance the responses and develop a framework in mind, and then go over the entire question and the responses. I seemed to like this strategy, as without reading the first line(which has key indicators like age, gender and chief complaint), i used to read just the last line, which didnt help with building a broad context of the scenario in mind!

Hope everyone is having a productive weekend

Nice advice!!
I have a Q for U?
Sorry if I didn't search the answer in your posts....ok!
Where are you studying to get scores?....DO you have a simulated test?
Or you just read, answered, timed yourself in a Qs bank and then obtain a percentage?

Keep going!!nod

hi karime,

I am doing kaplan q bank questions in a timed mode, which gives the score percentage for the block along with average fscore percentage for those who took before and some detailed analysis. I see that you have joined target and study499 in the prep, good idea to keep yourself going.

Best wishes.

Simon 70% - way to go buddy........some steady improvement here! I have 2 days less than you for the exam. May God bless us all with strength and courage to take this step towards our journey!

Great going, simon! You are making great progress and keep the momentum! The Qbanks are great tools to master key concepts and horn our question-solving skills. If possible, please repeat them, especially the wrong Qs, until you get majority of them right.

It is the final month already and time to give it all! You are growing in the log phase, keep it up!

Hi Simon, I hope you are getting a good feel about your preparation and developing strategies as you go along in revising between NBME and USMLE. You will pick up more than you actually realize in these final days of revisions. Developing strategies to avoid silly mistakes is vital in your case. Assess yourself carefully and closely. Will you have time to repeat only the questions you got wrong before the exam? That would be wonderful. According to your current progress, how much of Kaplan questions will be left at the end of your NBME date?
All the best to you this week!

  #271

Thank you target, commit and veteran. I hope this progress will be steady, as i am still doing kaplan in system-wise blocks, so will need to wait to see as I move from one to another. I would really wish to finish kaplan q bank in 2 weeks (before my next NBME, ambitious - 100 Q's per day!!), so that I will have time to repeat the wrong q's before my real exam. Lets see how things work out.
13 days to NBME, 25 days to presumptive exam date!

Completed reviewing GI q's/responses today. Will revise Biochem tomorrow.

Off to bed. Happy studying everyone.

all the best!

Thank you study499.

Just when I thought am making some steady progress stumbled in a block. Reviewed Biochemistry and completed a block and scored only 58%!! Will review the text and incorrect ones again tomorrow and do a block tomorrow. Hopefully the score will improve.
12 days to NBME, 24 days to presumptive exam date!

I wish there were more hours during the day to study! Well with full time job, I cant get more. Anyway, 3 more days of work and then off to USMLE full time! Cant wait to dive in full speed.

  #274

I am so happy for you. You are going to have a blast with the full-time prepnod

58% is not too bad. I found my score in Kaplan varies a lot too. Keep working.

Hi Simon, Biochem is another of those "dry" and time consuming subjects. IT is really low yield in itself but the question combinations cleverly test concepts in relation to clinical relevance. Spend your maximum energies on the carb, lipid and protein metabolisms and the disorders realted to them. The pure biochem part as far as the amino acids, tata box and all those, if you are hard pressed for time, review only question related replies and move on.
I know your social situation is hard, but make the best of your situation. God helps those who help themselves. You are going great!

  #276

Thank you commit and veteran for your kind words.
11 days for NBME, 23 days for presumptive exam date!

Did a block in biochem/hemonc, scored 66%, again 3 silly mistakes. Definitely I have contained silly mistakes but to totally eliminate them is getting to be a challenge, irrespective of how i try. However, will keep trying.

Off to bed. Will do musculoskel. tomorrow.

  #277

Hi simon, thanks for dropping by my journal. You are showing solid progress. I cant wait for you to get full time nod Tell me when you say will review biochem or musc sk - you mean going back to Kaplan or first aid only? Keep going.

Thank you target and usmlekiller for your post.

Target, when i am reviewing now, I read relevant contents in FA and the quickly review Kaplan. I dont read word for word in Kaplan but those highlighted key points and the notes I had written on the sides. I wish i could read the whole thing but i dont. This is why my reviews are going fast - 2 days average per system. I dont know if its the best way, but the one i could apply with my timeframe.

Best wishes.

Great going, simon! Now you only have two more days of work. Let's kill the test together.
