10 year old graduate, full-time job, family with two precious kids, have started preparing for step 1 a few months ago, aiming to do the step 1 in August with high scores. Need to get serious with my studies. Just finished studying Anat in Kaplan in first read through. Just started Kaplan Physio. Yet to read Patho first time. Working on Q bank questions simultaneously as i do the text. Would like to post my progress as i march towards August.

Thank you doctorDee, commit and Novak75 for your wishes. I live 140 miles away from my family in an apartment in a different city as my wife and i work in different cities, hopefully temporarily. Weekends are the time i spend with my children and wife hence dont accomplish much on saturday and sunday. I am sorry i couldnt post my response earlier. I plan to post my progress during weekdays. I need to come up with creative ideas to study during weekends.

Novak75, I started physiology last monday and am hoping to finish by next wednesday. I think i am about 35% mark - will start CV physio today in Kaplan.

I am hoping finish my first reading by April 11th (still have path, after physio). I will be out of town April 12 through 16th. Am planning to do second reading starting April 17th and hoping to complete it by June 15th. Then a third reading from June 15th through end of June and planning to take NBME on the first week of July to assess myself on where i stand. Depending on where i stand, am planning to take Step 1 in August. This is the plan. I welcome your suggestions and thoughts..

Thank you.

Continuing on track with physiology. Will finish CV physio today. Did a block on Goljan rapid review cd and scored 58%.

Planning to do a block of questions everyday from now on, to assess my progress.

Got to go. Good luck everyone.

Had a day-off from work yesterday hence was able to make some good progress. Finished CV physio and RS physio in Kaplan. Skipped Renal and Acid-Base Physio for next week. Currently reading Endocrine physio, so that i could hear the kaplan lectures in my mp3 player on my 140 mile drive home tomorrow. Still hoping to finish Kaplan physio by middle of next week.

Thank you antidepressant for your posting. Started Endocrine Physio in Kaplan yesterday. Will hear the lecture audio on the way home. Did a block of questions in Rapid Review and secured 70%! I need to try and shorten the time i take to finish one block (usually i finish within an hour), and most importantly reading the explanations for the questions takes a couple of hours. I need to slim this time down.

I will be able to post on weekends. Hope everyone have a good productive weekend.

I just found out that i typed in error on friday stating that i will be able to post on weekends, when i intended to type, 'I will not be able to post on weekends'. Weekends are the time, i spend time with my wife and two kids.

I barely studied for an hour on saturday!! I need to come up with some strategy to increase my weekend study time. Anyway, i had a very relaxed weekend with the family. I hope to buck up again with the prep today. I need to start Pancreatic physio today. Still hoping to finish the physio by thursday. Lets see how my wishful thinking and aggressive study schedule takes me.

All the best for everyone. Keep up the pace.

Thank you cutekity for your message. Yes, we could check on each other on our progress. Did you mean RR as in Goljan Rapid Review (text or questions)? Good Luck.

I am still in Endocrine Physio, hopefully will finish it today. Will also do a block of questions in rapid review tonight. Still hoping to finish Physio by Thursday.

You are doing great! Keep up the good work, simmon73. Let's make it happen!

  #14

simon73, wow, you are advancing fast, are you seeing the lectures on dvd too?

Keep going, you are doing great, I will drop by once in a while to see how you are doing, I have to hurry up.

About how many hours are you able to study a day?

Keep it up, and good luck.

PS. Thanks for resurecting my journal.

Thank you commit and Novak75. I completed the Endocrine Physio yesterday. Will do GI today and Renal/Acid-Base Physio tomorrow to complete the Kaplan Physio, and move forward with my last first read subject - Goljan Physio.

Did a block in Rapid Review, scored only 52%!! Guess need to put on a lot of work.

I am currently studying 6 hours a day - Monday through Friday. Saturday and Sunday so far nothing, but will need to strategise some plan to put in a few hours.

  #16

Hi Novak,

Just remembered that i forgot to respond to your question fully. I do not have step 1 DVD's, i have Kaplan audio CD, which i am listening as i read the text. Are the lectures different? Are there any additional ones in DVD, which are not covered in audio lectures?

  #17

Man, you are doing a much better job than me. 6 hours a day, you are amazing. I only put two hours a day for the last five days. I am trying to get back on track. I will try to squeeze 4 hours a day. Otherwise, you will leave me far behind.

Keep up the exellent work!

  #18

Hi commit,

I am glad that you are trying to squeeze in more time looking at my schedule. Remember, so far i am not able to contribute any study hours on saturday and sunday and also the power of retention of brain may differ from person to person. Anyway, lets keep each other inspired in this quest.

I completed GI and Acid/Base Physio yesterday. Just have the renal physio left. Hopefully will complete it today and move to the last biggie, 'Patho'!!

  #19

Finally, completed Kaplan Physio last Thursday. Started on Goljan Patho on Friday, completed Cell Injury. Had a break saturday and sunday, spent time with the family. Need to get back moving forward with Goljan Patho, will do Inflammation today.

  #20

Completed inflammation and fluid chapters in Goljan. Need to start Neoplasia today.

Plan to do a block in Rapid Review this pm.

Moving along with Prayers.

  #21

Goljan lectures have a wealth of information and a fraction is presented in his notes. Need to listen to at least 2 lectures per day from today onwards.

Did not do a black in Rapid Review as planned yesterday. I guess i am a slow reader, spend that time in reading the explanations for a block i completed before. Hope to do a block today.

  #22

I did a block in Rapid Review and scored 44%!!! Depressing! I guess I have miles to go.

I purchased the Rapid Review Pathology by Goljan, second edition and started Pathology again, it is indeed a very good book with nice color pictures. I am still hoping to finish the first read as scheduled by next friday!! 600 Pages!!! Too ambitious!! Will have to wait and see.

  #23

hey Simon, i was doing the same after purchasing the book couple of weeks back, and then again became very slow, so, i am thinking not to stick with it all the time, i finished general part except for environmental and genetic. now i am in cvs for many days, because i was not studying everyday. you are right the lecture is more interesting and more information. i somehow feel even if we get more grasp of audio, it will be great. Lets hope for the best! GL with your studies.nod

Thank you antidepressant for dropping by. I am in Page 125!! of RR Goljan. I dont think i can finish it by friday as planned. Besides i will be out of town saturday through wednesday attending the work-related conference!!! Need to rearrange schedule. This is my last subject in first reading. I was planning to start the second reading on April 17th, but not practical now. Let me see if i can devoted April 17 through 20 in finishing RR Goljan and start my second reading on April 21st!! So much information in RR Goljan to skip any chapters, but at the same time want to keep the study schedule.

Will keep on rolling.

  #25

Good job, great job!

Man, I am happy for you. You are making real progresses. I am also back to the game now. Let's do it. For the RR, I found the system pathology are a lot more difficult for me. I had a pretty good idea about the general pathology part. Man, I really hate the system stuff. I am very slow on these stuff. Even worse, I couldn't retain anything after my reading. But there is no other options, will get you posted about my progress.
