Seizures can happen as the effect of benzodiazipines wanes with time. But it more specifically occurs when immediate withdrawal is brought about by administring flumezanil. However I am not sure of the mechanism involoved. May any one describe why it occurs?

In chronic diazepam administration there is an increased sensitivity of the NMDA receptors, so that must be part of the rationale of this question.
