The null presence of the glycoprotein in RBCs of the individuals renders them resistent to the Vivax as Vivax requires the precence of the Glycoprotein. well didnt know this and look to it up Thanks for the new information...I chose answer B thinking in general about malaria, but i didn't give attention that it was p.vivax

NNL you r right the right answer is C-duffy blood group Ag P.vivax uses the duffy Ag receptor to enter the red blood cell, hence duffy Ag Negitive individiules are immune to P vivax HbS : hetrozygoutes are immune to P.falciparum, and it is said thats bcuz P.falciprum cant complete its erythrocytic cycle in the RBC bcuz it is cleaned by the spleen for its abnormal shape( theory)

The absence of duffy antigen from the RBC membrane makes it resistant to P. vivax. However choice B (i.e. presence of HbS) also seems to be a reasonable answer, as all species of malaria invade the RBCs at some stage of their asexual life cycle. Though I am not sure if the presence of HbS can be confirmed on a plain film examination of the blood from the patient.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duffy_antigen - good explanation here. If I learned that in my Blood Bank lectures I had forgotten it. Thanks for making me look it up.
