hello every one.
This may come as hope for those who have failed and are struggling.

The purpose of this new thread is to provide some kind of hope to those of us who have failed steps either once or multiple times.

Anyone who knows anyone who have previously failed his or her steps and is finally in a residency program now, please share here:

i.e.
type step failed ? ...1/ck/cs
# of times failed ?...3/3/2
Matched residency: where??
type of residency ??

thank you very much for sharing.
best regards and good luck to all of you. nod

I'm not doubting you but how is that possible?? According to your states it took you 10 attempts to pass your steps...

according to http://www.fsmb.org/usmle_eliinitial.html, illinois' rule is: 5 attempts at all USMLE Step combined; 5 attempts at all levels of COMLEX combined..

so how is it possible that you are doing residency in illinois?

Please shed some light.

thanks.

states --> I meant, stats.

God bless you Coca Cola smiling face LOL

that is exactly the case.

i.e. on top of the data means for example. these were just put like that to show the format.

I hope the confusion is gone.

I have NOTHING against his questions, BUT....he should have at least list his own stats first...then people will open up

B12, I think you have misunderstood the information on the link you provided.

I believe that information is for Medical Liscensure per state and NOT a requirement for residency training which is after ECFMG certification not a Liscensure.

also listed is the postgraduate training as 3 yrs for IMGs. How can that be a part of residency applicants??

so, please everyone, be careful when looking at this chart. these limitations I believe apply to you only if you are applying for that particular state's liscensure.

when it comes to residency training, considerations on step 1 and 2 performances are left solely on the disgrestion of the program director.

just some clearification...

LOL!!!

you guys are funny smiling face

intern_doc, perhaps I haven't started the residency program yet.....hence the curiosity.

when I do match in the upcoming match God willing, then i'll be able to add.

again, this is to see for everyone that those failed before have indeed gone on to successfully match.

anymore confusions are welcomed, but I wasnt antisipating all this smiling face

Hey guys, I myself didn't fail the boards, but a very good friend of mine did and she is now in residency
step failed 1 times 1 is now in a preliminary year of surgery, since this is not my info I will not disclose which hospital.
I hope this works
and BTW she is on visa and have not taken step 3

  #15

oh!! Guys Come on . Everything is possible . I took the exam a lot of times believe me a lot of times........., and I am going to start residency in July, but of course took me a huge sacrifice to achieve it and you have to go the extramile and look everywhere Please don't ask me where and how not right now I will share my experience perhaps next week.

Good Luck to everyone in the match

board setrification and licensing are two different things

and before you start residency you need to obtain license in that state (temporary, for training, etc).... there are few states that do not require you to have any license prior to residency, but sooner or later evryone comes to a point when license is needed, and at that point state medical licensing organization will use all those criteria that are listed on the website....

passing board is completely different issue

My college senior and a friend of mine, failed CS once and still matched in a good program last year. He had scores of 94, 92/ CS failed once/ No USCE/ got H1 in a Univ affiliated program.

Which states do not require a temporary license or residency license? Does NY require residency license to do residency?

Are the requirements for temporary license/residency license same as requirements for full licensure??

Thanx in advance for any info. smiling face

  #21

well, Lex, I don't know if this question can be answered here effectively.

you should start a new post for this question. if you know of anyone matching after failing steps, please post there stories here, so it could help those reading this thread for that purpose.

thank you.
