[Acute stress disorder] & [PTSD] are the same but differ in the duration ......, if the duration of symptoms is less than one month then it's the 1st, and if it exceeds one month then it's the 2nd

now for [brief Psychotic disorder] it's a complete different thing, it's just a Schizophrenia with all the Psychotic features but with a duration of symptoms less than a month......

and if the symptoms exceeds a month but still less than 6 months then it'll be [Schizophreniform disorder], and when it exceeds 6 month then it's Schizophrenia

I was confused by these two disorders too.

Here is how I try to differentiate.

1. Normal grief - as you would have been well known, the amount of distress is proportionate to stressor

2. Adjustment d/o- maladaptive reaction to less serious stressor
the symptoms cause functional impairment,
depressive symptom> flash backs

3. ASD/PTSD - occur in response to truely serious stressor
flash backs, palpitations > depression , function impaired

More inputs please!
