Hi I am new here and needed some help with visa issues. I have cleared my Step 1 with a 99 and am scheduled to take the step2 exam on april 23. I have scheduled my CS for june 25. I also have 2 observerships in US: one between may 15 to june 15. the other is from july 1 to july 31. both colleges have sent in a letter stating that I have been offered the observership. My questions are: 1. Can i go for the B1/B2 ivisa interview without the step 2 score? 2. During the interview should I mention about the observerships and show them the letters from the colleges? 3. Anything else that can improve my chances in the Visa interview? Thank you

From CS you will receive a paper that serves to ambassy. There is no problem to obtain visitator visa in order to take CS. About the other issue is up to you. Good luck.

Hey Guys, just wanted to say I got my visa. It was pretty simple and straight forward. For the documents required follow Priyagrove's advice given in the Visa Faq thread. for me they just checked a couple of documents... One doubt tho: My visa says it is for 1 entry issued on march 31. expires on sep 29. Does this mean i have to be back in India by Sep 29? or does it mean I have to be in US by Sep 29? I thought the period of stay in US is decided by the Immigration officer in the Airport. Kindly clarify

i think it is that u can enter US only once and that must be btw mar 31st and sep 29th. but after entering US hw long u can stay there is depending on the immig officer there. let the seniors explain more. pls tell what all Qs were asked? which consulate did u apply from?

Well thanks guys but those are two opposite views I had my interview at chennai consul. The Visa officer checked only two documents: Step 1 Scores and medical degree Some q asked were: 1. how long do you plan to stay? 2. who is going to look after the expenses and how much you expect it to be? 3. which hospitals are u doing the observerships and for how long? 4. when is step 2 ck? In summary my advice is as follows: 1. have all documents ready( as mentioned bypriyagrove in her post). this will give u the confidence in the interview. 2. answers questions clearly and to the point. do not give lengthy unnecessary information. answer only what is asked. 3. be clear and confident when you answer questions. 4. just have your answers ready for some basic questions you can be asked. if I can think of something more will add later
