I think the California programms dont even entertain without PTAL, but even if they do Its a must requirment before starting residency and guess u can match without PTAL

No chance man.......The AMGS in CA have very competitive CV's.............as it is we IMGS face a uphill task..............Now without a PTAL

Word of advice: it can take longer than you think. It took me over 6 months and I am from the UK - mainly because my medical school did not complete the form properly. Allow plenty of time. The other thing is they started to restrict the number of times you can renew - so the PTAL lasts 12 months, you can only renew it twice more. i.e. in your 4th year it says you have to train in another state.

I know because I applied the year before last and got the CA letter. Then decided to postpone my application, as I did not get my green card in time for the match. When I renewed my CA letter (aka PTAL) last year, I got a letter saying this new rule about restricting the number of times you can renew. ps: WR: British tea is more my kind of beverage.
