hi everyone, i plan to join the match 2009 that i can start residency in 07/2009. But i really would like to move to the usa in 01/2009. my brother has a private praxis in california, he is permanent resident. is there a way, that he sponsors me a visa (e.g. J1) if he employs me as, lets say office worker, and that i can change my visa with the beginning of residency?

You and your brother need to speak with an immigration attorney.

if he can sponsor you visa, why think of j1, rather think of h1..it takes a little bit more effort on employer's side but worth it..

hmm, that would be great. anyone here who knows if this is possible? since it is only a small private praxis, not a teaching hospital

it would fall under h1 cap ,, this is the right time to start working on papers.. .soon all h1 numbers will be filled and you will have to wait till next year for application and start time of oct 2009..
