The following nunbered codons relate to partial sequence of mRNA for a protein. termination codons are UAg, UGA, UAA ; initiation codon AUG. The triplets are numbered as shown:

132 133 134 135 136 137 138 139
UUG CUG CCA UAU UGU UGU GUU AAU
Inerstion of uridine between end of codon 135 & beginning of 136 will result in a protein containing how many amino acids?

A) 134
B) 135
C) 136
D) 137
E) 138

the answer should be 138. If you insert any nucleotide in the sequence, then you will come across a stop codon (UAA) at AA 139. THis will result in a 138-AA peptide.

remember, there are three stop codons: UAA, UAG, UGA
