Dear forum mates

I have a question. Lets say a program of IM has 30 seats for IM, 4 Pelim and 26 categorical. Can the program alter this ratio at its own discretion? If they get suitable candidates who are willing to stay at the place for 3 years (full Term), can it avoid the prelim altogether? and take all candidates as categorical ?

also if the program provides for the VISA of the candidates, can the program do the discrimination? eg turn down a candidate who is looking for a prelim and a Visa, and choose a candidate seeking categorical and Visa, just to avoid looking for a candidate next year?

I am an IMG, i need a Prelim Medicine with H1b. I know Prelim IM is all lapped up by AMGs. Is it feasible?

BBB , please answer. Others are welcome too!! smiling face

hey anastomosis,
prelim and categorical positions are not interchangeable.
Best wishes for the match!

AMGs do not take all the prelim spots - a good number yes, but not all of them. Many prelim programs will not sponsor an H1b for one year due to the expense. If the advanced program is in the same hospital, and will sponsor the visa, then sometimes that will work.

Good luck
