I am an IMG, I am planning to apply for the 2009 match for general surgery. In april and may 2008 I'm going to take STEP2 CK and CS, and on July 7th the STEP1. I am doing this in order to have my ECFMG certification before september 5, 2008, which is the last date for application for STEP3 during 2008, and then I am planning to take the STEP 3 in september - and ideally have my score before the interviews, so that I can ask for sponsoring me an H1B VISA. Now I am realizing that this plan is too intensive, and that I might need to schedule a later date for my step1, preferrably August 2008, and by doing that I will not be able to take my STEP3 in 2008, and I will have to take it in the biginning of 2009. On the other hand, I thus will get an extra month to prepare for my STEP1, and probably get ab better score. MY question is: which option is better? will this change harm my chances in being accepted for a program? Thank you for helping.

better to have a good score on step 1 and 2 than to have all three steps done at the time application...
so if you need extra time to assure yourself a good score on step 1 - take it!!!
