Hey I need some advice here... WHAT IF! what if, I match in advanced position and for whatever reason I dont match in a pgy 1 position. Of course I would've to scramble for my first year of residency. I was wondering if this would be a big issue 'cause
I dont have a GC, I wont be in the US and I am absolutely clueless about the process.
Will the pd of the program I match help me find a pgy 1 position?? Or would I be left all by myself in this process? In case the pd will be willing to help, isn't it going to be a little late by the time the pd gets the final results while most positions in the scramble are almost gone??
What could be the worst case scenario??

I heard that PC/PD will help you to find one PGY1 spot but not sure. BB may have right answer.

Good luck mazinger.

Don't count on the PD/PC to find you a spot - we don't get the locations of programs that have openings until Friday of match week - that's a little too late to help you.

I suppose that could happen, but don't dwell on it. In the words of the guy in the movie "Kelly's Hero" - "negative vibes, there you are again with them negative vibes"

(p.s. any of you WWII movie fans, this is a great classic movie - well worth renting.....)

I have the same fear, and believe me I am trying to be positive!
The prelim and tran- are very difficult to get because we IMGs are competeing with AMGs going for Derm, rads, etc. highly competitive speciaties while we are only in for neuro (which is what i love to do). I only wish more neuro are catergorical. It is so frustrating!

bbb thx for your prompt reply... There is one minor conflict, cant get rid of the dark cloud above my head.... always eat negative vibes for breakfast, dessert and dinner as my favorite recipe..

Anyways good to see some people show the there is light at the end of this path and I should stop being anal and pessimistic...

THX

Gee, and I am the one at work saying "The information is here, in case I get hit by a truck/bus/airplane on the way home from work...." I'm sitting here with positive vibes for everyone in the match this year. May there only be good news!!

WIth regard to the preliminary spots I have seen that there are some that do not get filled even after the scramble... Come on... if you have an advanced position already, I am going to guess that it will be in itself a plus for the prelim programs because they know that you will only stay a year for sure.

yes, ana I think you are right, that is why I decided to stop worrying and wait for the match and give my best shot for the scramble in case I need to find a pgy 1 position...
BTW how are you doing?? I have read many of your inspiring posts... keep it up! we need people who are active in this forum nod, since most people remain silent shaking head
