Hi everyone I am very interested in this thread. I have one attempt in step1 only(79 on 2nd attempt). My step2 score is decent (93) and step3(84). My Cv otherwise is very good I think...8 yrs UK experience in Obgyn of which 2 yrs were in research (now finishing my MD research degree) with 4 publications and 1 book chapter...but old grad(1997). I can account for all the years since 1997 with experience till 2006. I applied in NY only....did not get a single interview in Obgyn. Got one in IM through contact...not sure if I will match there. So, here I am...not a success story yet. I truly believe that it is the attempt in step 1 that is hurting me. I will be glad to see some success stories after attempts...It is really depressing to see and feel that no one wants you even after doing so much and you know that you could do better!

I just have something to add... I think people are using the word "attempts" wrong... Lets say you took Step 1 3 times and you passed on your third time you sat for the exam, that counts as 3 attempts (counting ALL the times you sat for the exam) NOT 2 attempts (the times you failed before you passed it).

my best friend has 5 attempts on step 1, passed step 2, CS and 3 on first attempt, published author got two invites through "connections" and did not match (second try of the match).. he is devastated. tried scrambling to only be told "sorry, but based on your attempts, we cannot offer you an invite.. :.. I am so sad for him, he really is a good and bright guy, he came to the states in his twenties, so i think that had something to do with why he failed so many times on step 1 because of his english and reading skills...
