Anybody knows why ANP goes up after hemorrhage? This is a bit counterintuitive! When blood volume decreases the ANP should go down to reserve some water for the body. But it really increases. I found it in Goljan's notes and checked the truth with some articles.

Sorry if I write back to myself here. I figured that out in this way: no matter what the underlying problem is ANP goes up to counteract the effects of angiotensin which is increased after hypovolemia. I just wonder if this is Sodium that stimulates ANP or volume or both.

Where did you find this information can you share please.

ANP is secreted in response to:

Atrial distention, stretching of the vessel walls
Sympathetic stimulation of β-adrenoceptors
Raised sodium concentration (hypernatremia)
Angiotensin-II
Endothelin, a potent vasoconstrictor

The overall effect of ANP on the body is to counter increases in blood pressure and volume caused by the renin-angiotensin system.

check out this one....

I don't remember the reference. It was one of the books that you could find its full text in Google. Sorry!

well after hemoorhage in Nervous tissues Endothelin is released which causes vasoconstriction which stimulates ANP release..
Widely distributed in the body, receptors for endothelin are present in blood vessels and cells of the brain, choroid plexus and peripheral nerves...
